I'm stuck in a restaurant due to rain, so I thought I might as well post this on the forums since its been on my mind for a while.
I'm no puzzle designer nor due I really understand how mechanisms affect the overall performance of a cube. I just can't help but think that big cubes have so much more possible improvements to make.
4x4:
1 - aosu to slow, inner layers are a pain and the center pieces oh my God
2 - yuxin unstable and flexible which is something you don't want in a big cube. Without modding it catches a bunch.
5x5:
1 - great job yuxin, this market is fulfilled. However I know that Moyu made the mechanism xD.
6x6:
1 - need I say more?
7x7:
1 - aofu is a parent's worst nightmare. It drains the piggy bank.
2 - mini SS is decent (going to try Dayan spring mod in a day or two). Relating to the parentheses if you want to truly speedsolve a 7x7 you gotta go aofu even if you do mod the crap out of the mini SS. Not everyone wants to mod a cube.
Point is, I hope qiyi can do something about the 4x4 market. They have some nice budget 4x4s out and I can't help but feel like they are 1 step away from monopolizing the 4x4.
6x6 and 7x7 is dominated by moyu and partially shengshou in the speed solving community and if a new brand entered these markets such as yuxin, qiyi or maybe a moyu sub-brand like cong or guoguan (to help moyu take over the market more) it would push the markets to new heights. Nobody seems to care enough to fight for this and no company seems to care enough to make our speed solving experience better
.
I'm a pretty average speed solver on big cubes (understatement, I'm horrible). 4x4 is 1:30 average, 5x5 is 2:50 average and I don't even speedsolve on bigger cubes because I'm too slow. Maybe I'm not qualified to make a true assessment on big cubes' state. But, as repeated timelessly above: "I have a feeling".
Coolio
