I just received my stackmat timer yesterday and it was fine then. Today it's really spotty. I'll reset it and then my hands will be three inches away and it will start again. I can also start and stop it with one finger on one touchpad sometimes. The touchpads seem to be on the blink. Another thing that happened is with the actual display on the timer. The bottom part of the numbers wouldn't come up. The timer ran but if I had an eight anywhere in the time it would show a horseshoe shape.

I've heard of some of these problems with QJs but not stackmats. Any suggestions?

Also, using the Timer and picking up the cube has added a substantial amount of time to my solves. Any tips other than just using it and getting used to the timer?

Thanks for your help!

You should have been starting with the cube on the table and picking it up to begin with. It makes the transition to stackmats easier. I dont have mine right now as I left it at my last comp, but just do more solves and it will feel less awkward. Stackmat would add about .5ish avg to my times right now I think.

As to your display problems, I have no answer to that.

Make sure you read the regulations on how to use the stackmat. I used to do karate'ish chops when ending solves on stackmats and was informed by a small kitten I found in New York that that is a +2. So, might want to check up on all them.

If it is a brand new stackmat timer there should be no problems. You might want to try replacing the battery. If there are still problems then you should contact the store that you bought it from.

Certainly the dropping elements in the LCD sounds like battery or a defect as Dene said. Probably not a coincidence that you are having other issues as well. Being direct from Speedstacks you should have no issues asking for them to replace. Got mine last week from Speedstacks UK and had no issues, not that it helps you mate but Personally I'd return it if the battery checks out.

I changed the battery and nothing happened

So I contacted Speedstacks at their customer service email and they're sending me another timer free of charge. I don't have to send back the defective timer either. Although the timer was a flop their customer service gets an A+. Anyone looking to buy Speedstacks products should get them right from their website.

Someone, holding the cube (computer timer) in the start of the vid got "yay!! sub 10!!!1! = 9.97" I always loled and "nope, that was a 10.50" :P

I always practice like in comp, even if I don't have the timer I start (palms down) - pick up - solve - stop, pretending it is a real timer in front of me.
