Need help connecting stackmat timer to phone/laptop

Hi, I have a yj stackmat timer, a 3.5mm to 3.5mm trs aux cable, a 3.5 to 2.5mm adapter. My phone and laptop have a combined aux jack, but it doesn't work. I am planning on getting an aux splitter like this:

I think you have to get a usb one. I tried using one similar to what yo plan on getting but it didn't work.
Also you can't connect stackmat to phone because of said issue.

Might be for an outdated OS, as most phones nowadays don't have aux ports.
