Is it necessary to lube with silicon spray, is it possible to lube with vaseline (petrolium jelly). Is this a good alternative?

Vaseline (petroleum jelly) is a good lubricant, but it will eventually destroy your cube.

Silicone spray is also good, and will not destroy your cube.

You can also get Jigaloo, which is also a pretty good lubricant.

You can get silicone spray or Jigaloo at Wal-Mart or you local hardware store, if you don't have it.

Shouldn't this question be in the Hardware sub forum of this website?

Petroleum jelly works instantly, but kills the inside of your cube. Even before it kills the inside, it gunks up.

Silicone spray is the best. There is a reason all of the fast cubers use it.

Jigaloo is a kind of silicone spray. It does not last as long as CRC.

So this has happened to you? Which brands have you tried? None of my DIY cubes have "died" even though I lube them with oils.

How fast average is required to qualify as a "fast cuber" by your standards? And what is the reason?

CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Spray is one of the most popular silicone sprays out there (for cubers). Some say it's the best, while some don't think so (like masterofthebass). I don't know the difference between other silicone sprays, but most people use it (cubers).
