Hello!

I am a 15 year old new cuber from Belgium, Europe. I started cubing round 2-3 weeks ago, but I got my first speedcube yesterday. Previously, I cubed on my Rubik's brand. I'm currently averaging around 45 seconds on the 3x3, using the CFOP method with 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL.
I've often read that the best time to start learning full PLL is when you average around 30 seconds, but I now have the time and feel motivated enough to start learning full PLL. I also lose the most time in my solves on F2L.
Should I first practise my F2L a bit more or can I already start learning full PLL?
Thank you for reading my post!

i definitely wouldn't recommend learning full pll at this time im assuming rn your goal is sub 40 so to get sub 40 i recommend learning better f2l cases and practicing mostly practicing i made the mistake of not learning good f2l cases and now im having noticable impacts in my solves
i also wouldn't recommend worrying about your solves too much remember cubing is not about getting faster its about having fun

Thank you for the great response!
So do you think learning some more advanced F2L cases can help me at this point? I'm currently working a bit to look further forward on my F2L.

maybe not so much advanced just if you see a case that takes a long time for you to solve then i reccomend trying to learn it yourself and if you cant figure it out then search it up

Ok, I'll do that. Thanks for the good advice!

Learn any alg set when you feel like it. The guidelines of when you should learn certain algs apply to most people but not everyone. If you want to learn PLL go ahead but your focus should be F2L cuz it's possible to be sub 30 with 4 look last layer.

TBH I would recommend learning pull PLL as soon as you can, there are only 21 cases, 9 of which you already know for 2-look PLL. I am not sure why people are prescribing not to learn something particularly to beginners. Yes I understand that the most gains you can make in time is during F2L, but forgoing everything to just focus on F2L is not productive IMO.

These steps are not mutually exclusive, they can happen at the same time. Knowing full PLL can easily drop your times by up to 5 seconds with recognition and execution in doing 2 algs vs 1. Similarly knowing full OLL will do the same. Unfortunately that process will take more time, but again all these things can be done at the same time. Learn a new alg every couple days and give yourself a day or 2 to drill the execution and recognition. That *massive* list of 78 algs can get done relatively quickly, especially for younger cubers.

Yes you can be sub 20 with 4-look, but why ? Learning the PLL and OLL algs can only benefit you regardless of how early on you learn them.
