Hello Speed Solving Community. I've been speed cubing for about a year now, I average about 30 seconds on 3x3 using CFOP, need to improve my cross to F2L transition and lookahead to eliminate pauses between everything. One day on YouTube I saw a video for the first step of solving the cube and was curious how to do it, a few weeks later I bought a cube and have been cubing ever since.

I also solve 4x4 and 5x5, which I average about 2 and 4 minutes respectively on, trying to get better at 4x4 at the moment. Got some other puzzles which I solve semi-regularly as well.

Would like to go to a competition, but there's not much here in the UK, and the ones that I do find are usually too far to travel to. I'm sure I'll find one eventually.

Well I guess by not much, I mean not as much as the USA. I'm living in Bath, but I don't have a car which is probably another reason why I haven't been, have to get the train everywhere.

Hopefully over time it will grow more in the UK, and then perhaps we'll get a some more events and competitions happening over here. Until then I'll just have to wait for something to happen near(ish) to me and keep getting better.

Welcome! UK does pretty well for comps, and being a small country most comps will never be more than a few hours away. Yes the US has more but it's a big country and some people have to drive for many hours to get to a comp.

UK will never have as many comps as US for obvious reasons. Also, all UK comps are two days and have nearly all events while US comps are usually 1 day with only the more popular events.

Good to know, if I do go sometime I will have to try my hand at a few events to make the most of it then.

Hi @Rubix Cubix. Welcome. I hope you can find a competition close enough to you. It's well worth making the effort to travel. When you do find one I recommend entering everything event you can solve and anything you might be able to learn. First comps are about getting experience and setting times that you'll beat next time.

Thanks for that. I am definitely going to consider going, will take me about 2 hours by train but that's not too bad. Think I will have to practice a bit of some of the puzzles I don't do as often if I do go, that way maybe I'll be able to get some half-decent times (for me).

Welcome to the community! I'm sure you'll learn a lot. Definitely try to make it to a competition, they are super fun and a great way to get motivated and meet like-minded people.
