Hello everyone. This place has already become a valuable resource.
How I got into this fantastic hobby:
About 10 years ago some friends and I wanted to get involved in cubing, so I picked up some Rubiks brand cubes at a local toy shop and set off to learn to solve them. I don't think back then I could do a solve without looking at the algorithms. Never committed them. Over the winter break, I visited my nephews for Christmas and they were so excited to show me their Rubiks cubes. I was solving the first 2 layers and looking things up for the final layer. They were so impressed, but I was just following along. This started to bug me so I picked up my old cubes when I got home and decided it's time I learn to do this solve anytime, anywhere. I spent that night watching YT vids and things started to click. I scratched down some OLL notes and ran those Algs over and over and over. By that next morning I was doing full solves based off the the algorithms I had committed to memory and not looking at my notes. That did it, I'm now hooked.
I'm now working on my F2L times and that has been a game changer!
I remember back in the day my friends were trying to hunt down speed cubes from China, but they weren't easy to get. Nowadays, I can have a new cube in 2 days with the click of a few buttons. Haha! I went a bit overboard, but I have cubes all over the house and some I can leave at work.
Happy cubing!
