hi i saw a clip on youtube, where a guy modified his cube, i believe it was a 5x5. he said that he put some kind of plastic or whatever in the cubies so that they are heavier. so now my question. is it better to have a heavier cube or is it worse? does it effect the way of turning a lot? does anybody has experience with this kind of stuff?

I have had an idea of putting plastic foam inside of the cubies to kill the noise. but I was affraid of the added weight.

dunno, but I think it could be cool to have a heavier cube for practicing "Shadow Cubing" :D like, you use it for an hour then go back to your normal cube and it could be more easy.. or something

like when you practice for speed stacking? i made a cube with foam on the outside, but it is only light stuff so not really different. but i also have a rubik's game cube. this one is haevier but i havent cubed with it that often, because i have some problems with it. but i saw a few cubers on videos who are using this heavier cube. i might make one i the future. hope it wont get to heavy. :)

I think if you are going to practice with a different cube it should be with a cube that has not been lubed-not heavier. In speedstacking the reason why you have 'Super Stacks'(metal stacks with added weight) is because you are lifting the stacks. In speedcubing you are turning the layers not lifting anything so it would be better to make it harder to turn and not heavier.

i m just wondering which purpose the filling of the cubes have. i think it wouldnt be smart to practice on a stiff cube, because then you will overturn your layers on your speedcube.

well its next to impossible to do fingertricks on a stock cube. at least for me. you'll only hurt your hand and you'll have to turn each face one at a time. maybe on a lucky cube dunno

You should keep at least one bad cube around just for that purpose. I learned my finger tricks and built hand strength for 1h on a horrible cube.

I would only want a better/smoother cube to practice fingetricks on. I memorize all my algs like continuing motions/ finger tricks. and fast. I usually mess up my last layer if I get interrupted during an ll alg.
but yea, strength is also nice to have

jup is the same with me. as soon i get interrupted i get lost. i havent really practice fingertricks yet. i was looking at some videos on youtube but never practiced. i would rather practice on a better running cube. if you wont to build up strength you have to do your practice on a stiff cube more often. if you practicing once, you wont build anything. is like working out you have to do it regularly.
