Hi there cubers

I am Thomas, 35 and living in Holland.
Picked up a standard Rubiks 3x3 about a year ago.
As I was unable to solve it myself I found help in the video's of Dan Brown.
I practiced the "beginners method" over and over again but I failed at getting any faster then 1min-1.05min.

So it was time for a different approach.
Bought me a Dayan Guhong and started to look into the Fridrich method.
As Im practicing F2L for some weeks now I'm getting better and better at it but I still solve the top layer with the beginner method algorithms.

Thats why I signed up here, Im at the point of starting to learn OLL/PLL and I can use all the help I can get to become faster.
This seems like the right place to be

Hi and welcome!

I'd suggest learning 2look OLL/PLL . It isn't that hard and you know some of those already from the beginners method.
You can sub 40seconds with not too much trouble by only knowing the 2look algorithms as long as you practice F2L(and cross to a lesser extend) enough.

I do wonder what your goal is (if you have one ). Just to have fun or to beat a certain time or something else ? :)

Welcome to the forums. Hopefully you'll break some barriers, and find a way to learn full OLL without dying of boredom. Heaven knows I need to learn full OLL

Hi Thomas,

Welcome to the forum. I suggest you stop doing first layer first the beginner way. F2L is faster because you can do pairs. When you allready have done the first layer there is no point in finding pairs. The pair part is what makes you faster real soon. I also started out this year with 1:30 averages just after beginning with Fridrich. I am a lot faster now.

He doesn't do the first layer the beginner way. He does the last layer that way. If you two live near each other, it'd be cool if you guys met up too. :D

Haven't really set a goal yet other then learning the full Fridrich method and your suggestion helps a lot. Will look into it.
I can imagine getting faster just by solving it day after day.

Welcome, I would recomend to learn 2look OLL and PLL from Badmephisto: 2LPLL 2LOLL

Badmephisto is quite a help to me at this point as I used his youtube clips and F2L alg.page.
Will def use his 2look OLL and PLL clips for practice aswell.

Thanks guys

Hi,

It seems that our usernames are similar... :D Also, I have a 4LLL tutorial at my website here: thomasje.webs.com/4lll-tutorial-2. 4LLL is a simplified version of OLL and PLL. Instead of 78 algorithms, 4LLL has only 17. I have also attempted to write the guide in a way that is easy to understand for new cubers. Good luck in your cubing journey!
