I have only been solving for a few months now (since October 2015), but am looking to push myself further. I began with a Rubik's Speed Cube and learned by practicing basic (2-look OLL and PLL) CFOP right from the get-go, and am currently working my way down from 1' 55" by beginning to learn the one-look algorithms. I have also branched out into 4x4x4, 5x5x5 and 7x7x7, and am looking to improve in those solves as well.

My practice is limited by a slightly hectic work schedule, but I one day hope to be fast enough to make a good showing at a competition.

Welcome! And also if your time is 1:55 on 3x3 I recommend not learning one look yet, it will take some practice but in my opinion one look doesn't matter nearly as much as a solid f2L phase. Hope this helps and Happy Cubing!

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely work on lowering my f2l first then. I was just messing with my cube working on my current solving method to build my speed on recognition when you replied. The 1-look thing is really just a side project as of right now, to be honest.

On another note, in your opinion, is 1:55 good for someone w/ only 10 months of on-again-off-again solving? I was kind of nervous about that, being a beginner, and seeing the flood of crazy fast solve videos on Youtube can be a bit disheartening at times.

I average about 40 seconds and I still use two look so don't worry about it. And 1:55 is fine that was where I was at about the same time. Just don't get really REALLY discouraged by the fast times that you see because I did the same thing and it made me lose interest in cubing for a while and I just got back into it a few months ago. My advice is practice because it's fun not only to get super fast. And trust me if you keep practicing you'll be surprised how you can keep shaving that time down to where you want it.

I can see what you mean, was just using a timer on ruwix.com Average of 5 was 1:28.87, That's my best ever! It's been a while since i timed myself and that's a definite improvement. I'm finding the algorithms a lot easier to let flow now. I'll keep on working to get a sub-minute solve, but I'm on my way. I wish you luck in decreasing your times as well.

@shadowslice e: I am definitely thinking about it. I have been reading about them in the Wiki, and i think ZZ would be the easiest to branch into, but I did learn to solve the first few times using CFOP. I can't even do Beginner's! :P F2L just felt so much easier to slip in to.
