Hi,
I am from USA and currently reside in St. Cloud, MN although I hope to move to Oregon soon. I don't actually have much skill at speedcubing and am somewhat of a dinosaur these days. I learned to solve the cube around 1984 which was about 4 years after it's debut. I was 13 at the time. I remember solving it the hard way back in 1981 before we had fancy algorithms. I would charge $1 to some 5th grader and then give it back to him solved after having gone to the stall with a flathead screwdriver . I later used the simple solution to rubik's cube which uses I think at most 7 or 8 algs. Recently I have taken up cubing again and am working with the Friedrich method for F2L and then plan to slowly tackle the OLL and PLL.
Anyway I have some mathematical background BS so the patterns are of interest to me in their own right despite their ability to speedsolve the cube. I noticed that a couple of the F2L patterns ( 41 in my set ) that used 8 moves could be done in 5 moves. I think maybe the 8 mover might be just as fast though because it uses only U and R(or F) moves whereas mine uses a B(or L). If anyone could tell me where to find or post discussions regarding this please let me know.
Thx demontoe
