Hey all,
My name is Dono. I got bit by the cubing bug two months ago at the ripe age of 34. I saw Dan Brown's Rubik's cube tutorial in a documentary, and thought, "I wanna try that!" I've been hooked ever since. I'm learning CFOP, and am just about to tackle OLL. I'm trying to get my hands on as many twisty puzzles as I can. I haven't ordered any online yet, and my main is just a simple old Rubik's brand cube. I'm currently averaging 2:11. Not great, but I'm new, and I'm enjoying the crap out of it. When I'm not cubing or working as a sheet metal fabricator, I play bass in a band called Towers & Trees. There is a competition in a neighbouring city next month. I'd love to go and be a part of it. I'm excited to meet other cubers, and get into the community. However, with an average of 2:11, I'm not sure if this is a good idea. In any case, I just wanted to introduce myself, and say I'm glad to be here

Hello and welcome! It doesn't matter what you average, go to a competition and have fun! My first comp I didn't know anybody so for the first hour or so I just sat and talked to my dad while all the other cubers were hanging out at different tables. I only had a stickerless 2x2 so I went to a random table and asked a guy if he had a spare. I then met 7 guys at the table and had a blast racing them and we hung out the rest of the comp. I am still friends them now. Don't make the mistake that I made at first, start up conversations and meet people. For averaging just above 2:00 you are already going to learn full OLL? Unless you really enjoy learning algs, I HIGHLY suggest just starting with two look OLL and two look PLL. If you just meant two look OLL then that's fine. F2L is the most important part of CFOP, i suggest looking up some intuitive F2L tutorials and practice that first. Sorry if this seems pushy, but I am just trying to help you out.

Welcome from another fellow Canadian (at the slightly less ripe age of 33)! You should definitely go to competition no matter what you average. I really want to go to my second competition (I've only been to one) so I can make up for being too shy at my first competition.

Not push at all. I appreciate the advice. I've been working on intuitive F2L for the last two weeks, and am progressing OK. I was wondering if I should just jump right into full OLL, but you've helped me make that decision. Thanks! Also, thanks for your opinion on going to the competition. I'm fully capable and willing to look a fool and having fun at the same time.
Cheers

Thanks. From what I gather, there are only 3 Canadian cities that have comps. I'm pretty sure that I'll go. It's in Vancouver; a bit of a trek, but not too bad. You back east?
