I think (maybe) many of us are not giving the 356 a fair chance.

After towel-cleaned the cubies (clearing off the 30K oil from the surfaces of the cubies, I spent lots of time breaking it in. It became fast and "loose" - a much better cube than before. Y

Recently, I used 10K silicone oil on the cubies and 50K oil on the white corner stalks. In fact I lubed it 3 times in the span of 2 days, simply to test the effect of lube on the gans. I popped an edge and a corner from one surface, then -

The first 2 times: lube 2 corner surface and its 2 white stalks. Once worked in, and dried, it remained fast but it felt "lubed"

The 3rd time: lube all 4 corner surfaces and the 2 white stalks (where I popped the edge/corner). It took longer for the effect of the lube (gummy?) to "disappear". Once it did, it is just as fast but with 2 differences:
a. the cube felt tighter (as if I tightened the tension)
b. the cube recovered its gans "turning feel" (the first time I turned the 356, I was impressed, though it wasn't really fast)

IMO the 356 can become a much better cube by:

1. 2~3 weeks of breaking it in
2. 50K silicone oil on the white corner stalks (me thinks gans overlubes the cube when it sells it, thus accounting for the initial slickness)

[doubt it will surpass Hualong, with Hualong's amazing ability to turn smoothly without any apparent (real or otherwise) catching]

Nice update.

Caught a couple of interesting stuff in the video:

a. now I know my 357 came with the new logo (lightake didn't bother to reply to my query)

b. They are releasing a new center to manage the catching issues? Will they be selling the new centers together with cubes, or selling them separately?

c.I like my 356 as is, without the fiddling with springs. But you stated that spring 9 makes 356 feel like 357 - now I am curious...(I like 357 loose and fast turning). Previously they only had 8 & 11. Now they've added "6", "7" and "9"...

No idea about how they will be selling it. The 8 and 11 were only made for the 357 and the 357 spring sets are not meant for the 356 (and the 356 are not meant for the 357). Two completely different spring sets for two different cubes.

The centers come separately, if you want a link to where you can get one please PM me.

Got my new center caps from cubicleus.
It is a tad better than my modded caps but it could be that I am used to the old caps...

If you are buying other stuff from cubicleus, it may be worth your while to throw the $2 caps into the basket. And the associated stickers for the change...

In fact I got the springs as well. But not really enthusiastic about mucking around with it at the moment...;)

Almost one year old thread but...
Got the springs from cubicle a couple of months back. Finally made the time to swap S9 spring, rather than forking out big bucks for a slightly better gans air . This first gen 356 has the new caps.

S9 makes it much better for my turning style. Almost feels gans 357-ish, but with better control. Or feels like when I had the corner screws loosened considerably, but without the wobble or lockups.

ok so i believed the hype and spent the $23 at the cubicle because i thought this cube would be amazing. But, this cube is only worth like $7 in my opinion. I was so dissapointed because it catches A LOT. It was so frustrating because a cube like this should not do that right out of the box. However I did file down and unscrew the corners a bit and it helped, but it didn't help that much. I am so confused about how many people think this cube is amazing and it annoys me because i just don't see it. The only reason i say all of these things is because i have a Hualong and that cube is the best cube i think will ever be made. My recommendation would be to buy two Hualongs for about the same price. The gans356 is much slower, slipperier. and flexes so it is harder to align than the Hualong too. Also, the stickers are not that great, not that it matters, but one sticker started peeling off the same day i got the cube. moyus standard stickers have much better contrast. DONT GET ME WRONG THOUGH, this cube has some positives, it has this smooth buttery feel that is really nice is highly adjustable. its a decent speed cube, but i really think fangshi and moyu make better cubes.

Please let me know your thoughts because i may be wrong on some of these issues. who knows. it may just be a matter of preference
Try tensioning it, don't underestimate the gans. Tensioning it needs a lot of skills, and if the tension is wrong even in minute amounts it will get catchy..... even i have a gans 356 standard edition
