3x3 17.83 PB single -- rough breakdown before scram release. (btw where can I see the scrams?)

I simply just relax and intentionally turn it slowly for the first solve

it had very good cross (2 solved), very efficient F2L (last 2 pairs at once) and OLL 43 which I immediately recognised its a 6-move OLL. PLL was actually F perm which is very good for me. U2 for AUF.
For the 2nd 3x3 solve, I only remember that the F2L i did was quite efficient. Got U perm for PLL.
For the 3rd solve, the scram was so bad. Cross was bad which took me 7s and PLL was a Gb perm. I did J perm instead as I knew I would just mess it up lf I did my left hand Gb alg. I did J perm then U perm with lockup 🤣
For the 4th solve, the scram wasn’t particularly easy but I pretty much planned the whole cross during inspection and did the cross in 3s. 2 look OLL ending with OLL 23. T perm + U perm with no AUF for Rb perm. I did this instead of doing my Rb perm as I always mess it up and I knew there is no AUF if I do T perm + U perm.
Fifth solve was an OLL 22 and U perm for PLL.

For pyraminx, I used the GAN and I lended my weilong M to my friend. Got YLM as backup but I found the GAN do not really work well in comp. Not sure why but I think I may have done quite a bit better if I used other pyraminxes. I just don't really understand what's the problem with the gan pyraminx, but just feels like I really deserve a much better result with those scrams.
Does anyone know What's exactly the problem with the GAN pyraminx in comp? Is it too stable to handle rough turning style? Should I switch to the YLM or the Weilong?

Clock is so hard. I really wanna learn to have a customized pin order and that shd prevent from making silly mistakes and DNF the clock avg.

Also after competing for the very first time, I think I have to work on pyraminx more, especially finger tricks. I have heard that there are a wide variety of intermediate Pyraminx skills and methods. Don't really know what are the differences and where should I start with.

HI. I can't stop you from buying more cubes but I still would like to say this. I feel like you've got the idea in you head the hardware is the most important thing when it comes to cubing. When you mentioned switching to you MGC from the Nezha mid-round and your time got faster, it is NOT because you switched. Your solution must have been better that's all. You don't need to have a massive collection of 3x3s just so ONE suits you. You can stick to one cube for a year and you WILL progress(and save money). Its about learning new things not getting new things. If I'm not being clear just tell me. -Milo

EDIT: Hardware does come into play more when you are sun 10, sub 8 ect same for non 3x3 events.

I only brought my tornado v3 and moretry tianma x3 snap for 3x3…
For 5x5, the dayan catches so much in comp and significantly affected my solve.
What’s wrong with having a backup?

I’m not even maining a gan 3x3, what’s wrong with me having 2 mains or a backup? Like some actually got 4x4 pop/ skewb pop and got no backup in comp.

To me, efficiency is the most important in solves. Then finger tricks, followed by hardware, lastly is tps.

There is nothing wrong with having a backup. It can be useful and also be used as a warm up cube. What I think he is trying to say is once you have a decent cube getting a much better one while will affect your times, will not make as much of a difference as simply learning more/practicing more. For example: my ao100 with a gan 356m is 19.24. Mine with a Yuxin little magic is a 18.33. (I honestly don't know why I'm so much faster with a YLM)

Yea pricy cubes are not always better than budget cubes

Overall thoughts on my first comp:
3x3 is the best one as I pretty much got the same time as my normal average at home, with a very good single of 17.83. I hv only got 2 sub 18 in last 300 solves at home. My other main event skewb & 2x2 are a bit off as I avg sub 6 for skewb with Sarah’s intermediate OLL and full PLL (I mean perm L4C) but did not even get a sub 6 single in comp. I avg sub 5 for 2x2, and at least I got a 4.8 single but it was PLL skip. For pyra and clock, both need to improve. I normally avg sub 10 on pyra with LBL but got +4 at comp ending up with 15.21 avg with no sub 10 single. For clock, after I messed up the 3rd solve, I stressed myself to get good times with the last 2 solves, but both got dnf and dnf the avg. May learn finger tricks and intermediate methods and techniques for pyra and use pin order for clock.

nerves happen to everyone. hopefully you do better next time!

Just got the scrams and I think I got set F 3x3 scram for first round. Trying to do full break down on 1st solve which is my PR, but found it so hard to break down especially F2L. I got F perm but not sure how I did that F2L to make it end with a F perm

Set F scram 1: U' B2 L2 U L2 F2 R' U2 L2 D2 L2 D' B F2 R2 U' R2 B

Edit: F perm should be on 4x4 not 3x3 as I checked the solve cam

Just finished reconstructing my 17.83 PR single solve with my GAN 356 I carry.

Scramble: U' B2 L2 U L2 F2 R' U2 L2 D2 L2 D' B F2 R2 U' R2 B

Solve: U R' B' R L2 D'2 L' D L U L' D L D F' D F D L2 D'2 L2 D'2 L2 U L' D' L D' L' D L D' L' D L D' L' D'2 L D L' F L' B2 L F' L' B2 L2 D

Move count: 50 moves
TPS: 3.6

48% Xcross + F2L
30% OLL
20% PLL
2% AUF

CFOP break down: 9 moves pseudo double Xcross, cross + F2L in 24 moves, OLL25, Aa perm, U AUF

Pyraminx
- average sub 10
- main: WeiLong Pyraminx M
- method: LBL
- goal: average sub 8

I have just decided to switch back to the weilong for pyraminx after setting up the tips again. The tips on my weilong are now as nice as gan pyraminx tips, but the ylm pyraminx still got the nicest tips. However, in terms of the actual turning, my weilong pyraminx feels like a nice balance between the ylm and the gan. The gan is too stable as I turn faster, while the ylm is a bit too fast for me even after strengthening the magnets strength. Also, the weilong corner cuts quite a bit better than both the gan and ylm and has a nice balance between regular and reverse cuts. As for now, since the tips on my weilong are well set up to be fast enough to be speed solvable, the weilong pyraminx has become my main once again. The only issue is that it is a bit too flexible for me due to its great corner cutting, but I think I can adapt to it very quickly and at least it doesn’t deform as much like my gan pyra or bell v1, like having almost “piece out” when it cannot cut through, since the weilong can pretty much cut through everywhere.

Wanna ask about finger tricks:
I can only do sub 2 T perm and sub 1.8 Y perm on 2x2. How can I improve?
I can do sub 0.6 sledges on skewb, but I found cube rotations taking longer than that. How to do cube rotations on skewb efficiently?
