Fukuoka Kengo James' Progression Thread

I have now switched back to the Moretry Tianma x3 Snap for 3x3 as I found myself more consistent with it than my Tornado v3 Pioneer, like I can get better singles with the Tornado v3 but I get better averages with the Moretry Tianma x3. With basic F2L, 2-look OLL and full PLL, I now average sub 22 with the Moretry Tianma x3 Snap. Still hoping to improve F2L and progressively learn full OLL so as to get into sub-20.

Also unintentionally learnt OLL 28 & 57 yesterday.

URGENT, two and half hours left before competing in clock

How does pin order work on clock? (as I believe there are no algs to memorise, I may just try to apply the execution method)
Its one of the two events that I will probably get into top 100 in Japanese national ranking in my very first comp today, the other one event is skewb
I haven't practice much on clock lately as I was focusing on improving in 3x3 and OH, that's why I'm asking this so late

I would personally not worry about a pin order 2.5 hours before a competition. You won't have the practice with it to really see the benefits of a set order.

Just found a very good video on clock pin order. I found it very hard to get use to others’ pin order even though it seems very efficient. At least I now have a rough idea on how pin order works on clock and I think I may want to develop myself a customised pin order in the future instead of just adopting others’ pin order completely without modifying anything.

As I have just learnt to do M slices with OH, I found the M slices on my DaYan GuHong v3 M with stronger magnets a lot better than my GAN Mini M Pro UV Coated. I have now switched to my DaYan GuHong v3 M with stronger magnets for OH, and I’ve got my pb single of 34.13. My previous pb was 37.34 with my GAN Mini M Pro UV Coated, which is more than 3s slower. I got a H perm for the 37.34 solve, and I didn’t know the OH H perm alg or OH M slices. For this 34.13 new pb, I got a Z perm and I applied OH M slices I’ve just learnt from my friend today and it went pretty smooth.
I’m maining the guhong v3 over the gan mini M pro UV coated for today’s comp mainly because my gan mini is badly setup and is sluggish and gummy. Cleaned up the internals entirely for a couple times but still can’t quite get the right setup for it. Feels sandy for me for some reason (people call that papery, but I just don’t want such feel on my wca puzzles)

Fun story abt 5x5, I was maining the dayan nezha M but I also bought my mgc 5x5 to the stage. I wasn’t very use to the mgc as it may lockup and pop when at high tps like parity alg. I haven’t even done a single solve with the mgc 5 before as I just got it lately. I avg sub 2:45 at home lately without practicing 5x5 that much and the time limit was 3mins (dnf if over). I got 3:16 with my nezha with Gb perm in first solve which was very bad on 5x5 and I felt like it was almost over, so I took the risk of potentially popping and asked the judge if I can switch to the mgc for my second solve. That judge was really nice unlike the pyraminx judge who gave me +4 😂, and he let me switch to the mgc. I used the the mgc for the second solve, and I got 2:59.14 which barely made the time limit

Square-1: got parity in both solves. Barely got the first one in the time limit of 1:30 with 1:25.42. 2nd one had very easy cube shape (blocks of edges 4+2+2), but I got +2 on it. +2 square-1 PR single

For pyraminx, I used the GAN and I lended my weilong M to my friend. Got YLM as backup but I found the GAN do not really work well in comp. Not sure why but I think I may have done quite a bit better if I used other pyraminxes. I just don't really understand what's the problem with the gan pyraminx, but just feels like I really deserve a much better result with those scrams.

Clock: got sub 16 for first 2 solves, but then messed up the 3rd scram ending up with a 20.23 and got very nervous. Then told myself gonna get some nicer singles to cover the bad average, but ended up DNF last 2 solves and got DNF average.

3x3 17.83 PB single -- rough breakdown before scram release. (btw where can I see the scrams?)

I simply just relax and intentionally turn it slowly for the first solve

it had very good cross (2 solved), very efficient F2L (last 2 pairs at once) and OLL 43 which I immediately recognised its a 6-move OLL. PLL was actually F perm which is very good for me. U2 for AUF.

Nice good job.

Can you provide the actual reconstruction through alg.cubing.net scramble+reconstruction link?

The judge was impressed by how I got into sub 3 by switching my main
