Hi Everybody,

Okay I'm just starting to learn the most popular speedcubing method all over the world, the Fridrich method. I'm looking at some websites and for the F2L, there are like 4 sets of different algorithms for each case. For example, they have algorithms labeled FR, FL, BR, BL. What do those mean? Do they do the same thing? If you don't know what I'm talking about, go to Bob Burton's F2L algorithms here. Just look at all those different kinds of algorithms.

FR,FL,BR,BL indicate where the Target slot is....lets say you paired up your corner and edge and its the color RED WHITE GREEN

And green is on the bottom. Your Tartger slot is FR

And i do reccomend learning fridrich but not the f2l algorithms for F2l i would suggest learning it inuitively You can learn it by watching my tutorial www.youtube.com/aznboi1324

Okay wait I'm starting to get it. It means your target slot. So are the letters abbrieavations of something? And Fr is the green is on the bottom what? You mean the color on the bottom (center piece) is green? I'm confused. Can you or someone else provide more specific examples?

Oh so there are 4 algortihms for each case so you can put the Red Green White pair into the FR, FL, BR, and BL from any position? So are the point of these other algorithms so you don't have to turn the cube or get the correct corner piece over exactly where it's supposed to go?

If I'm correct, do people actually learn all 4 for all the cases that have 4? I mean that goes to like at least 120 cases for F2L. Do people actually do that?

1 you are correct.
2 people don't learn them. they usually look at them and try to see what the trick behind doing it without cube rotation is.
3 do a white cross instead of green :)

Thanks a lot badmephisto! I look at your youtube videos and I like them a lot. I don't have a youtube account though but great videos!

Whats wrong with green?

Then again You should be color neutral lol

pcwiz: thanks. not have youtube account? that's kinda weird :)
andrew: not really, i don't support that color neutrality thing too much. the only benefit to it is a 0.5 second faster cross, but i like to think that you make up for it with faster recognition times. of course, we will probably never know... but here is a FACT: most of the best speedcubers are not color neutral. coincidence? I think NOT! :p

Most best speedcubers use fridrich too... is that the only way to go now as well? but yea I agree for fridrich color neutrality isn't that important, you can use the time to look ahead to your first pair instead of just looking for an easy cross.

Eh.

But if your really good you could look into the whole solve and see what has the best f2l pairs =P
I couldnt track that many pieces but anywho mabey someone can
