My new 4x4x4, 5x5x5 and Megaminx arrived in the post today, so I thought I'd give em go without relying on any algorithms. My times were:
* 4x4x4 - 3:35:39.12 - took a while because of an annoying edge orientation problem
* 5x5x5 - 0:37:11.82
* MegaMinx - 0:57:17.93
With the megaminx you can do all but two faces with blockbuilding. The final two faces can be done using the Heise edge orientation/placement method, and the corner orientation/placement can be done using commutators/conjugates on the corner cycle (R U R').
Much respect to the Heise method - it has to be the only one which works on any shape or size of cube!
