I am currently using the beginner method, and i usually end up between 2:15 and 2:45 at this moment, are there any algorithms/shortcuts to shorten the time? I'm currently doing the cross, corners, middle edges top cross and then top edges.

Learn fridrich method With 2look OLL and 2 look PLL. Read all about it in the wiki and in tons of other threads here on the forum.

If you don't want to learn more, you should still be able to get your times much faster if you just keep practicing.

Learn F2l OLL and PLL

and its entirely possible to get around the 40s and 50s with beginners method so keep trying :D

Step 1: Just practice and get around 1:30:00 - 2:00:00
Step 2 : Go on Youtube and search Rubiks Cube tricks
Step 3: Learn the Keyhole Method and get around 1:00:00 Dan Knights tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OooAf-NFfuY
Step 4: Learn F2L and get around 40:00-50:00 Lancetheblueknight tutorial:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG4wsoEEndU
Step 5 :Learn 2-Look Oll and 2-Look Pll Get around a 30 second averages
Step 6: Learn Full Pll
I'm on Step 6

Why should he bother learning keyhole method? If you tell him to learn f2l after that to replace the keyhole method, then its just a waste of time.

Yes that guide should work just fine. At first, your times will increase. But before you know it your times will start getting faster and faster.

Edit: Don't use that one. He uses like algorithms and stuff. Learn it intuitively. I learned from Thrawst. Youtube.com/thrawst
