Fast but boring or slow but fun?

I meant the learning curve
What learning curve? Many beginners have found Petrus easy to learn. And I taught Petrus to a non-cuber in a day, even though I averaged several minutes myself.

I personally know quite a few Petrus users, and it's discouraging to see how many new Fridrich users are easily surpassing them.
It took some people *years* to get sub-20 with Fridrich, not to mention that some never get there. I got a sub-15 average with Petrus about a year after starting. Blaming the method for bad times is just lame.

i found petrus easy to learn. i did consider learning lbl when i first picked up a cube, but i've only ever solved one using petrus!

progress is kinda slow i suppose. it took me probably 4/5 months to be consistently sub 30 but give me 6 bad edges and a nasty pll and i can still end up with times like that. 10 months ish after cubing a lot i average sub 20 more often than not but it has taken a lot of practice and 20-23 is still a frequent occurrence.

ultimately you are going to have to learn a lot to be fast fast fast... there are few shortcuts to achieving that. i would say learn petrus, but i'm biased :P

Beginners aren't what I meant... that's why I said learning "curve".
Learning it is easy, don't think I'm biased against it as I was originally try to learn petrus for speedcubing to be different from the Fridrich crowd, and I very easily solved a cube after first learning it in a few minutes.

"Learning curve" means, it's easy to learn, it's hard to get fast with.

After a week with Petrus, I could hardly break 3 mins. But after a few days of 4-Look LL Fridrich, I was already sub-50.
And you can't ignore the learning curve of a method and call it "lame".
Erik has shown sub-20 is possible with LBL, but that's not easy to achieve at all.
While TONS of people are getting sub-20 with CFOP in 2 months (myself included).

Petrus might be a good method, but you just can't ignore that getting fast with it is not as easy as Fridrich.

Bundat,
I disagree. I never practiced Petrus, and I could easily get about 30-35 seconds with it as opposed to Fridrich (20-26 seconds). I practice Fridrich a lot. I don't know why people don't like Petrus. It's easy and fast, just not so easy to get used to when you suck at cubing. When I bother to learn COLL someday and get better at FMC, I would switch to Petrus.

Where did you get that from? Those people are definitely a minority of all CFOP users. See this, for example, or search this forum. There have been a few threads about how fast people have improved, and sub-20 average in 2 months is rare.

And that "2 months" doesn't tell much. Is it 30 minutes a day, 6 hours a day, or something in between? That alone makes a much bigger difference than the method used (assuming it's not *really* bad).

Just because you say that getting decent times with Petrus is much harder than with Fridrich doesn't make me believe it. My experience doesn't support it at all.

Even if that was true (I don't think it can be measured, there are so many other factors), I find it very hard to believe the difference is as big as you're stats (that sound rather arbitrary) indicate. Factor of 15 or so sounds just ridiculous.

I think the only reason Petrus learners are slower at the moment is because few people use it and there is no information on it. Finding information on Fridrich is so insanely easy and beginners asked the most stupid questions and get answers to them that if they weren't learning it fast I would worry for their mental state.
