Well i learned f2l method like a 2-3 weeks back and now have started using it for a week . My LBL method avg was under 1min 20sec , now my f2l avg is 1min 15sec to 1min 30sec , and i see no big improvement . I am slow with the f2l part i think that causes no improvement . I want to ask the pro's that after getting the cross , what to look for to solve the first corner for f2l? i always get confused what to choose because sometimes no edge and no corner is on the top layer . I really need help with this cause i am sad that i see no improvement :(

A good thing to do would be to learn ways to easily bring a corner/edge to the top layer and pair it with its corresponding piece. I would also consider how long it takes you to recognize pairs. If it takes a while and a lot of thinking, you probably just need to practice more and get more used to f2l.

WOW! it seems their are so many threads that talk about F2L, Sheesh. When I was learning F2L I always targeted my edge first and then the corner. Now I see my first insert while doing the last few moves of the cross. Your times will worsen before they get better. About a month after learning F2L I had dropped from 1:10 to 55 sec, yet a week prior to this I was averaging about 2:00. It really depends how much practice you get in. What I would focus on is recognizing the F2L cases. Knowing how to solve a case immediately after targeting it really helps.

i am doing it the intuitive way and i am practicing like 2 hours a day or maybe more lets see i just am a bit angry and stop cubing will practice more in the morning . and thanks for the reply and waiting for more :o

Solve cross on bottom. Gives a good look into F2L
Learn 2 Look OLL and 2 Look PLL
First find a corner. Then find the corresponding edge.

Or try lubing your cube. Or getting a speed cube.

BUT PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.

Hi ahmedkl, welcome back! I understand what you are saying, F2L can be a little bit confusing at first and it is common to see an initial increase in times as you get used to the idea.

To be honest, at this time, I really think it's best if you don't time yourself. Solve the cross and then find your first F2L pair. Probably a good way to start off with this is just to take the first corner or edge that you see, and then look for its partner piece, even if it isn't on the top layer at the moment.

Once you've found a pair you want to solve, just take a moment to think about how you want to bring them together. Don't be afraid to undo what you've just done and see if you can find a better way to partner your F2L pairs. To be completely honest, when you're getting really fast with this method, you tend just to be able to glance at a F2L pair, recognise the case and know how to piece them together immediately. You even start coming up with your own "algorithms" to set up or bring together the pieces.

A bit further down the line, you will become able to see a case which will be so familiar to you that you can solve it without looking. Advanced CFOP users use this time to look for the pairs they are going to solve next, we call this "looking ahead".

For now, really just take your time. Don't worry about being fast, instead, try and be efficient in your corner-edge pairing and just become more familiar with the whole F2L process. Don't just do solve after solve after solve, really take your time and concentrate on F2L.

Good luck, and remember: Go slowly, take time to think about different ways you could bring the pieces together before you solve them, and don't be afraid to undo what you've just done and try something different.

maybe some one posts a something which might help me out . and yes i am gonna practice alot until i don't nail it down to sub 1min at the end of this month
Thanks for the reply jiggy really helped it :)

I'm no pro, but I have some advice to offer. regarding f2l pairs I always look for one that only needs to move one piece on to the top layer to do the pair, I doubt they will all be on the bottom/middle (unless they're solved or you are super unlucky). also you times will worsen and then drop like a bomb. it happens to everyone

For now, just PRACTICE.

But, if you want something more specific....
This might be too complicated, but here goes:

Instead of doing the standard R U' R' insertion, I sometimes to a U2, then do a r' U' R U M'. This gives good look-ahead for pieces on the B face of the cube if you don't find anything on the F face.

But like others have said, just practice, and maybe use this.

Good luck!
