So I recently got three Type Ds from Cube4You, and got lucky--one of them is the old Type D. It is very fast, and a wonderful cube (dropped my times over 10s compared to the highly broken in, sanded, and lubed Rubik's store-bought), but contrary to what I've read, it does pop quite a bit, even at close to maximum tension (as many agree that old Type Ds seldom pop, I'm guessing this is just because I'm a newbie).
In any case, my Type D is the only cube I have (the other two were gifts), and I'm definitely looking to expand my collection. However, I can't really do this all at once.
I saw PestVic's video on the Type A-II C4Y kit, and it looks like an impressive cube. The lighter, hollower pieces are attractive as well. However, I've also heard many great things about the Joycube, and the transparent model Tribox is selling is very elegant, IMHO. I would get it, except for that doing so would preclude the possibility of my also purchasing an old Type A core to replace my old Type D core.
So... which would you recommend? Get a Type A-II plus an extra Type A core, or get a Joycube?
My record time is 49.37, so I'm certainly not pulling out blazingly fast solves, but at the same time I'd like to have a cube that is itself capable of sub-20 solves in more capable hands. Also, although I've heard that Joycubes are great OH cubes, and I may OH in the future, I am currently only concerned with cube speed/looseness, locking, tolerance, and pop tendency.
