so I got my 3x3 DIY type A II in the mail from cube4you.com I ordered a bunch of NEW type A cores cause thats all they had and somehow I got a bunch of OLD A cores instead. sweet. but the DIY kit came with the new pink core. anyway its complete crap. everyone says type A is one of the better ones but they must be talking about the OLD type A cause the one I got is prone to popping. the corners are loose and thats why it pops. the centers are also not as stable side-to-side as any of my rubik brand cubes. this cube might be better with corners that aren't so loose. I tightened it up all the way so now it doesn't pop but it is pretty stiff.

if your thinking of buying a type A make sure its the OLD one NOT the new type A II

garbage!

I recently ordered an old A, but was mistakenly sent an A II. I put it together anyway. It sucked hard. But, after lubing and a few full averages, it ended up breaking in nicely. Still not close as good as the old, but it's not terrible.

I've got a type A II, sand the ridges so they are not as sharp, break in a while and lube. before this it was hard to turn easy so had to be set looser and it popped a lot. Then after sand/lube, you can tighten the screws more so it doesn't pop

you can get awesome TPS with this cube...
RU' x 63 takes me about 17s on that, and on anyone elses cubes (old As) is generally sup20
yeah it pops quite easily, but it makes for an awesome OH cube.
and put in an old A core.
this has all been said before anyway. look it up.

I don't have an old A core and with the A II core it sucks after I sanded and lubed it.. it's so crap...

ok so after paying $17 to have this piece of crap shipped from china I need to go buy a type E and discard the cubies? I think the lesson learned is that storebought cubes are fine if you lube them. keep it simple. I might get a old type A from puzzlepros. if thats not any good then forget all this stuff.

UPDATE: the type A II with old type A core. sanded down the tabs on the edgies so they woudn't be so tight. then lubed it with a silicone spray like crc. tightened all the screws almost to the stop. this thing is really fast. my apprentice has beaten me 1:14 - 1:16. he is using the beginner method 4 look LL. just prooves that with a little work it can be a great cube. I was using a heavily modded walmart $10 rubik brand cube that is probably equal to this type A
