Do you think lookahead is getting pointless

I just watched Caiden Lee's video on the skill pro cubers dont use anymore and they said look ahead is now becoming pointless due to everyone always being able to plan out 2 or more pairs already so they dont need lookahead. I am kind of frustrated with this because I just spent hours apon hours recently trying to perfect my lookahead.

This is a very imperfect comparison, but imagine somebody says "competitive eaters do very little chewing during their competitions" (this may or may not be true, I don't know). You wouldn't conclude that chewing is now a useless skill - in fact, it's highly necessary for everyone but the best of the best. And you certainly need to be good at the skill to *achieve* that highest level.

What I mean is, in order to get to a state where active look-ahead loses some of its importance, you need to be exceptional, and you can't become exceptional without very strong look-ahead. You're not doing anything wrong here.

Ok, thanks for clarifying that up!

I think you're missing that the very skill of mentally planning ahead during inspection is using advanced lookahead, it's just that the lookahead happens during the inspection.

top cubers don't use lookahead because they've already plotted out the solution in their heads during inspection. so, i think lookahead is definitely one of the most important things one can learn, not only because it's much faster than "macropauses", it also increases your ability to inspect faster. because after all, inspection is lookahead with the added luxury of time.
