Do you get made fun of at school/work for being a cuber?

Do you get made fun of at school/work for being a cuber? I get made fun of at school. One very annoying kid who follows me around always says stuff like, "You're stupid. You research Rubik's Cubes." About 2 years ago, you were really cool at my school if you knew how to solve a cube. Now, I'm the only one that has stuck with it for 2 years. I hope that I'm not the only one who has this problem.

I bet anyone who made fun of Felix or Max now has egg on their faces! :)

I'm 37 and I've had nothing but positive interactions. I cube a lot on the subway, and every few days someone will strike up a conversation. I've taken to carrying an extra cube with me to give away to people (obviously not now during the pandemic since I'm not even taking the subway anymore). At work, people are either interested or impressed, especially when I do one handed solving. I even had one co worker ask me to teach her how to solve. I work at a financial institution.

So, things get better when you're an adult. Children are mean. But mean adults don't make it professionally. Once you are no longer forced to go to school with literally everyone else, the mean people will fade away into failure and you will no longer encounter them in your daily life. They can be safely ignored.

Edit: My wife and my good friends sometimes tease me about it in a good-natured way, but we all tease each other as part of our friendships. For example, my wife says "just when I think he has found the dorkiest possible hobby, he surprises me again."

I know this is a pretty old thread, but why not?
I've kind of always been teased about whatever I chose to pursue. I brought a Greek Mythology book with the Olympians on the cover and I got teased for being a 'weeb' (i mean, what? That doesnt even make sense) And now that I do cubing, I just stopped caring about what they think, and my insecurities about my hobbies melted away . I only started last March like, the day before lockdown started, but whenever someone asks 'What do you do to spend time?' and I say 'I cube' they respond with 'HA! NERD!!'
I almost never get that problem, except for the occansional person

Similar to @dudefaceguy my experiences are overwhelmingly positive these days. When I started cubing in college my roommates and friends gave me a hard time about it. It was the all in good fun and we talked a lot of trash back then so it was playful and not malicious.

I’ve always had “weird” or “atypical” hobbies though and understand the underlying sentiment in this thread. I’m sure the middle and high school cubers get picked on and made fun of a lot. Just remember anyone who brings you down to lift themselves up has already lost the battle. “Cool” kids can be so mean sometimes and anyone with intellectual thoughts or hobbies is seen as a nerd, loser, dweeb, etc. in our culture....unfortunately it’s especially true in school settings.

As you age the ability to solve becomes more impressive and less of something to be made fun of for. I often cube at the airport when traveling and people always ask kind and genuinely curious questions. I’ve actually had “Speed Solving Rubik’s Cubes” next to “hiking, running, camping, adventure, disc golf, lifetime learning” on my resume since college. Every single job interviewer has asked me about it and it is always a positive experience and an ability to showcase how my brain works. I am a bridge engineer so my community finds this Hobby intriguing. While the wall of cubes behind me in conference calls (thanks ‘rona) is low hanging fruit for playful jabs my co-workers and friends now find it interesting or impressive and don’t come at me with the same degrading nature as a school yard bully.

Bros run the hallways, Nerds rule the world. Keep cubing and love your own skin.

lol in a starbucks, someone said i'm smart when I cubed.

I'm a middle school cuber but don't get picked on cos I introduced it to my school and now like 30% of kids cube

A few of my friends know how to solve a cube, once I met someone averaging 20ish with CFOP while in the library (I averaged roughly the same). I saw one person with a Pyraminx once, and a few other random people who know how to solve it/are interested.

Yup, my co-workers make fun of it, but we make fun of everything, and it honestly doesn't bother me. I know deep down they're jealous that I can do it. :)
Same, although in school instead of a workplace
