Do you believe this method was suitable?

I just conducted my own little experiment to see which 3x3x3 cube I own is my "best". The four different models I own are: Panshi v1, Guhong (v2 I think, maybe v3 (if that exists? I forget)), Zanchi (white), and a Shuangren v1. For my experiment I completed 12 solves in a row on each cube, with a moderate break of non-cubing leisure in between each 12 solves. Of all the stats listed on cubetimer.com, the guhong (which is also torpedoed) had the best stats of them all.

I guess my point is, would you consider this a viable way to assess which cube I should use? I know that how I feel about a particular cube is a big factor as well, but frankly, besides the panshi, I enjoy the feeling of rest of them.

Thoughts, comment, questions? (I also have the stats on a word doc if anyone is interested in them. I'm not really that fast imo.)

It would be to tell your own personal preference, but not which cube is the best in general. Each cube has pros and cons, but it ultimately depends on the user. It is kinda weird that you joined in 2011 but just now made a real post :p

Some things I'd say:
- 12 is a small sample; try 50
- I would suggest doing a warm up with a neutral cube first (maybe 20 solves), and also another 20 solves after, as a control
- Do not do them directly after each other (even with a break); do it on separate days

I think this would constitute a much better experiment. But really, I'd recommend just picking one and going with it. Personally, I'd recommend Zhanchi, but who cares what I think? :p

Thanks for all the feedback!

I can't believe I forgot the basics of an experiment, which you guys have shown me :p

@ace - I fall in and out of really getting into speedcubing since I'm in college and a musician. I've mainly done a lot of reading on here.

Doing it on different days? then what happens when you have bad day?

Of the ones you mentioned, they all can be great cubes except for the Panshi.

Hard to judge this way. I can do several averages of 12 on the same cube and they would be fairly different... but it's the same cube in the end. Unless the variation between times is much different, just go with whichever you feel you like best. More solves also helps some.

All the cubes you mentioned (except maybe the panshi) are very good (top of the market for 3x3s for sure) so your times shouldn't be too much different. I think that there are simply too many variables when doing a test/experiment like this to use speed to choose a main. If the difference is minimal (< 1 second?), I say choose the cube that you like the best, even if it did not give you the best average during the test (personally I choose cubes based on overall feel, some people care more about different aspects of cubes) because this will make cubing more enjoyable.

I just read that and I'm not sure if it made sense :/ Hopefully some part of it did. Good luck!

I did ao100s recently with several of my 3x3s (guhong v2 black, 55mm zhanchi black, lingyun v2 white, guhong v1 white) and all of them were sub18. The 55mm zhanchi had like a 17.38 ao100, and the guhong v2 had like 17.53, but I prefer the feeling and speed of the guhong better, so I went with that, since the speed difference was minimal. The other cubes were like 17.8x or 17.9x averages.
