Disassembling and 45 degree turn

Hello everyone,

While disassembling a 3x3, what is the advantage of rotating a layer 45 degrees before taking out the first piece out on cubes with circular cavities? Since the cavity is circular, the gap doesn't widen by a 45 degree turn.

A possible answer: If we want to remove FU edge for example, and if it is done as is, then the U and F center cubies are pulled outward while doing so. If we turn it by 45 degrees clockwise before removing, then we would be pulling out the U center piece and FL edge. FL edge is held by the F and L center cubies, and since they are pulled at a 45 degree angle, the required displacement is only 0.707 [= sin(45)] of a direct pull.

Any other thoughts please?

Thanks in advance!

It's easier to grip the piece if it's at 45. It's not to make room for the piece to come out it's to make room for your thumb to get under the piece. If your cube is loose it's not even necessary.

ok, played around with a few cubes, if you don't rotate it the edge is between two center pieces, and they don't move so there is no give... if you do it 45 degrees then you're over another edge piece, which can move down giving you more space. I can't take an edge out of my guhong without turning the face.
