This entire situation is just sad. Gil has done nothing wrong and somebody decided to target him just because of his religion. He benefitted this community so much, just to be forced out by a couple of evil people.

This should never happen again. The person or people who did this should be banished from this community and the WCA forever.

Eh, Gil is not entirely without fault here. Some of his interactions with David Epstein were... sketchy.

I worked hard and spent a significant part of my life to help the community,
but members of the community have taken it to such extremes that i honestly fear for my mental and physical well being.

With all of that said, I really don't want to take part in this community anymore.

some people are really ****ED UP if they go this way, and all for some plastic toys.

An equivalent alternative to speedcubedb and cubedb would be really really nice, preferably run by a group that not one person has executive power over, or just run by someone who isn’t as prone to temper tantrums as Gil is.

To be clear, the hate towards Gil was mostly unjustified and in some cases downright disgusting. But that doesn’t change the fact that tearing down (only to reinstate a few days/weeks later) two sites that are among the most used tools in the cubing community because of a few bad apples is utterly silly and quite irritating.

Agreed. I use it much less to actually pick and learn algs, but as a nice central resource if I want to find an alg real quick. I typically don’t even assume it has the best algs, just that it has decent ones. If I wanna know an alg for this specific ZBLL, I don’t have to search around for good ZBLL resources and then scroll through the potentially disorganized sheet. I can simply load speedcubedb with full confidence I’ll find a reasonably coherently stored list of algs for this case.

A central resource with a bunch of alg sheets linked that is comprehensive enough would be good but I don’t know if that exists at the moment.
