Denver Open 2008 Results

Tyson Mao won the Denver Open 2008 with an average of 16.02 seconds. Doug Reed finished second (16.58) and Frank Morris finished third (17.47).
North American records: Frank Morris 5x5 1:35.81 (single) 1:42.22 (average), Daniel Hayes Megaminx 1:36.93 (single) 1:46.46 (average).

Same reason Tyson didn't compete in the first few Caltech competitions. He was too busy running the competition and entering times.

As Shelley said, Dan decided to sit out to make it all run smoother. He will for sure compete next time.

I did horrible. My OH avg was 37... I am normally just over 30. I did have 2 sub 30's. My 4x4 avg was even worse, with a 1:23 avg. I am normally sub 1:15, but I did have a 59 sec solve, which I am happy with.

Any comments about the competition?

It went very well. I wasn't worried about performing well, more worried about making it run smoothly. We got a lot of help from competitors with judging and whatnot. Tyson definitely helped with making it all run smoothly. We had a great turnout, met a lot of cool people. I didn't realize how many Colorado cubers there were. There are definitely some things we did that we will change next time. I totally blew 3x3 finals (and first round for that matter). I was just burned out by the end of the day, kind of like the 4 blindfold competitors that made finals . I like this pic, it is me during the BLD event. Unfortunately, I DNF'ed.

I noticed that to as I was going through the pics. Next time we will definitely emphasize stopping the timer with the fingers instead of the wrists. I had to tell like 3 people not to do that.

New regulations went great. I didn't notice any more +2's or DNFs.
