Dont quote me, but i think its something a few people on here should care about. First man on the moon.

Heh, I think the use of the term "worldwide hero" is a bit of a stretch :p .

As a proud British American hater, even I am understanding of the implications he had for world wide 'peace'
Had the Americans. I won the space race, the world would probably be a very different place. Wether you see him as a direct hero or not, his actions will have most probably had a positive effect on your life.

He was a fantastic person (and the others too who helped him get there), but the fact that he has died, imo, should not be considered a tragedy that we stay awake at night over. It happens.

I sorta agree. I (hesitantly say, worried that I am stepping on controversial territory-) think that those who have helped him get there should get equal credit. Who helped get him there? Are they worldwide heroes too? Why don't we know their names? Without the (other?) engineers he couldn't have gone up.

ALAN TURING SHOULD GET EQUAL CREDIT FOR THE MOON LANDING

Fun fact: Buzz Aldrin was supposed to set foot on the moon first, but it was easier for Neil Armstrong to get out first.

And I agree with 5BLD; it's not because of him, it's because of him AND everyone else that helped get the spaceship up.

But not all those other people just died. Neil Armstrong is the man that got constantly interviewed, and kept his mouth shut about the greatest US cover up ever.

I never said I don't consider him to be a hero. Whether I do or not is irrelevant. How many people from the middle east do you think consider him a hero? What about the Russians? XD

How strange. A few days ago the news were about Lance Armstrong getting banned. Now it's about Neil Armstrong's death. I'm willing to bet that we will now discover some unknown fact about Louis Armstrong pretty soon :p
