Dealing with the strange looks

I hate cubing in public, therefor I never do it. Except if I'm at a comp and going out with other cubers.

I really hate that people think that I'm smart because I know how to solve it. I usually tell them that it's harder to learn how to walk, read or swim.

And it's really bad when they change topic from the cube and start asking me really personal questions, like if I have any friends, or gf, or if I'm a virgin.

But yeah, listening to music is the best way to gett rid of them.

I hate the stickers joke, I once sat on a buss, cubing and a girl came and asked me stuff about the cube and then told the joke. I just got up and walk to the fron of the buss and sat there instead. :P Come on, they all think they are so funny because they manage to recall a joke they heard in the 80's.

But sometime fun stuff happens, like a a couple of dudes saw me cubing and one said "I can only solve one side" (altough in swedish ;), the next one said, "I once did two sides", can you guess what the third guy said? It really cracked me up. :P

well.. if he said he solved 3 sides, that's still possible. i mean u can solve 3 sides without solving the entire cube =o

You can solve up to 4 sides but I've never done it unintentionally. If you have enough intuition to figure out how to get 4 sides, you should be able to figure out how to place the last 4 misplaced pieces in either of the 4-sides solved cases.

"When you get home, go to the computer and open notepad or what ever. Then close their eyes and strike keys at random...

lol, I don't really blame them when they accuse me of just undoing a scramble. I could write an essay on it but I'll keep it short :-P

If the scramble consists of very few unique, yet repetitive, move sequences then you can use muscle memory to reverse it easily.

Tim.

I do it in publoic all the time and if someone comes up to me I will talk to thhem. But if it some "smart guy" who thinks he knows what he is talking about I act like I speak another language.

I was sitting at the Elks (after playing pool) scrambling and solving my cube over and over. A 70 year old lady at the bar said to me, "Is that some sort of therapy or something?" I looked at her and she looked serious. I gathered that she must be the only person who never saw a Rubik's Cube or learned of its complexity.

The bartender of this one place where I play pool dragged me over to impress some guy with his girlfriend with my cubing. After I solved the cube, the guy paused, squinted his eyes in wonder and said, "When was the last time you got laid, dude?"

new ones:

"Psh he's just looking at the pattern, it takes no skill" (yeah, my method is the"memorize all 43 quintillion permutations" method)

just don't look up and keep walking or just smile and point to your throught and shake your head lol =] but seriously what I do is if I am going into a big crowd where I will not be walking very fast I just put it in my sweatshirt pocket until I get out of the crowd
