I'm considering getting a G4. Sell me on it.
Have you used the YuXin Blue? If so, how do you think they compare?
What's your average?
I've never used the Yuxin Blue. My experience is pretty much limited to my black stickered G4 and my full-size stickerless Aosu. I've briefly handled a Guansu and a Shengshou at the one competition I've been to, and both of mine are far better. The Shengshou was comically bad, in my opinion. The G4 is a much louder cube than the Aosu, but better at holding its cube shape. I end up with more catches on the Aosu because it has too much flex. Corner cutting is comparable: virtually effortless up to about 7/8 of a cubie forward, 1/3 reverse. Both will pop if you try to force it. One advantage to the Aosu is that when it pops it is a much easier cube to reassemble.
At the end of the day, there are two reasons I switched to the G4:
- Smaller size (I know I could get a mini Aosu, but they aren't cheap)
- Inner layer speed. I tried all sorts of tensions, lighter lube, etc, but I couldn't get the inner layers on my Aosu to come anywhere near the speed of the outer layers. The G4 inner layers are light and snappy.
Plus, the G4 is a relatively inexpensive cube. I've heard they catch terribly until broken in, but I got mine used and it had stock stickers (which are the subject of at least a couple negative reviews at The Cubicle) in good shape, so it can't have been all that broken in and I've never had trouble with that.
As to average, I'm not that fast. My most recent Ao100 is 1:57.69. I just recently got a PB Ao5 of 1:44.33. I think relative to my ~35 second 3x3 times that's actually fairly good, but I'm trying to get to 1:30 so I can actually make the cutoff whenever a competition comes up nearby with 4x4.
