What is the point of being in the community if you don't cube? That is what these forums are about. I know this isn't a good analogy, but it is like saying that, "I don't play chess but I am in a chess club."I retired from cubing for good. I still stick around in the community.
because it's easier to be in the forum than to practice seriously. simple as thatWhat is the point of being in the community if you don't cube? That is what these forums are about. I know this isn't a good analogy, but it is like saying that, "I don't play chess but I am in a chess club."
I like learning about chess even if I'm not down for a match. What is the point of being in the community if you don't cube? That is what these forums are about. I know this isn't a good analogy, but it is like saying that, "I don't play chess but I am in a chess club."
I am still interested in the activity in the cubing world. What is the point of being in the community if you don't cube?
Yeah, that isn't a good analogy. Being in a chess club means that you are playing chess. That is what these forums are about. I know this isn't a good analogy, but it is like saying that, "I don't play chess but I am in a chess club."
Obviously it is easier to be in the forum than to practice seriously, but that is not my point. Not practicing seriously doesn't mean that you don't cube. Ruffleduck said, "I retired from cubing for good", which makes it seem like ruffleduck doesn't even touch a cube, even though I am pretty sure ruffleduck probably still solves cubes every once in a while.because it's easier to be in the forum than to practice seriously. simple as that
I literally just said it wasn't a good analogy but I was just trying to prove my point.I like learning about chess even if I'm not down for a match.
You can't prove your point with a bad analogy.I literally just said it wasn't a good analogy but I was just trying to prove my point.
This is correct. I haven't solved a cube in months, as I had put them away.which makes it seem like ruffleduck doesn't even touch a cube
I feel like if you had kids in the future you are going to either teach them about chess and forgot that you even have the Rubik's Cubes, tell them not to solve Rubik's Cubes and focus on chess/whatever else instead, or maybe just give the puzzles to them when they are old enough to learn without issues and say "Do whatever you want with them."I retired from cubing for good. I still stick around in the community.
How so? I would like to see evidence supporting this claim.Never quit cubing its a crime against humanity
Not sure why you would say that, but there are a lot of similar cases to ruffleduck:What is the point of being in the community if you don't cube? That is what these forums are about. I know this isn't a good analogy, but it is like saying that, "I don't play chess but I am in a chess club."
Is it bad to have friends in a different hobby? That’s all that Ruffleduck is doingAll I am trying to say is that IMO being on the forums which is about cubing and saying you don't cube doesn't make sense to me.
One could argue that @ruffleduck quit speedcubing but did not entirely quit cubing.Never quit cubing its a crime against humanity
This depends on your definition of "cubing." I consider cubing to be solving puzzles while speedcubing is solving puzzles with an aim for optimizing time. I do neither. I wouldn't consider being part of a community to count as being participating in the hobby. One could argue that @ruffleduck quit speedcubing but did not entirely quit cubing.
Exactly. Take this to the extreme, if I suffer from an injury permanently and can't cube anymore, does browsing cubing forum consider "cubing"? I don't think so too.I wouldn't consider being part of a community to count as being participating in the hobby.
