Do cubers take retirement. Like do we sometimes in the future stop cubing forever. Or stop going to if competition if we can. What do yo think Give your Valuable thoughts

I recently returned to cubing after a 4-5 years period of almost no cubing at all. In my case it was not like I decided that I was going to stop cubing, it just happened, I started to do some other stuff and I had less time for cubing, eventually when I had time I would do a couple of solves but because I haven't practiced my times were bad or I started to forget some algs, because of that I got demotivated which led to less cubing and eventually I would not cube at all. Eventually I retook cubing and in a couple of months I recovered my level.
Sometimes I ask my self how much would I have improved if I hadn't stop cubing? But there is no answer to that question.
Hopefully I won't stop cubing in a long time.

I retired from cubing for good. I still stick around in the community.
What is the point of being in the community if you don't cube? That is what these forums are about. I know this isn't a good analogy, but it is like saying that, "I don't play chess but I am in a chess club."

I am still interested in the activity in the cubing world.

Yeah, that isn't a good analogy. Being in a chess club means that you are playing chess.

because it's easier to be in the forum than to practice seriously. simple as that
Obviously it is easier to be in the forum than to practice seriously, but that is not my point. Not practicing seriously doesn't mean that you don't cube. Ruffleduck said, "I retired from cubing for good", which makes it seem like ruffleduck doesn't even touch a cube, even though I am pretty sure ruffleduck probably still solves cubes every once in a while.

I like learning about chess even if I'm not down for a match.
I literally just said it wasn't a good analogy but I was just trying to prove my point.

I feel like if you had kids in the future you are going to either teach them about chess and forgot that you even have the Rubik's Cubes, tell them not to solve Rubik's Cubes and focus on chess/whatever else instead, or maybe just give the puzzles to them when they are old enough to learn without issues and say "Do whatever you want with them."

Definitely anyone becomes less active in cubing(or any other hobby) someday.

Not sure why you would say that, but there are a lot of similar cases to ruffleduck:
  • Friends stop playing football after getting a job, but still active in their communities, organize events or friendly competitions, drinking sessions, small chit chat watching matches.
  • I used to play baduk/go a lot, now I am not playing at all, but still watch matches, chat with friends, read reviews, answer beginners' question.
  • More.

All I am trying to say is that IMO being on the forums which is about cubing and saying you don't cube doesn't make sense to me.

Again if I stop practicing TaeKwonDo, does it make sense to you if I still in the forum?
Or we can look at it this way: “Forum-ing in former hobby” is actually a hobby.

One could argue that @ruffleduck quit speedcubing but did not entirely quit cubing.
This depends on your definition of "cubing." I consider cubing to be solving puzzles while speedcubing is solving puzzles with an aim for optimizing time. I do neither. I wouldn't consider being part of a community to count as being participating in the hobby.
