Color neutrality or look ahead? Or both?

CN doesn't appeal to everyone, but if it does for you then I recommend you try it first. If you get too comfortable with white it will be even harder to switch to being CN. But don't put off learning look ahead. Learn it at the same time as you get comfortable with your colours because it is absolutely essential to getting fast. Colour neutrality is not.

I am CN and have always been CN ever since I have started cubing. I do personally like CN though I don't think I would recommend it to people who are thinking about switching unless if you are very, very dedicated or at least have some previous experience (started out CN). I would recommend skipping CN, do duel-cross if you choose, and practice your look-ahead. It will save you a lot more time I believe.

Take in all the great advice in this thread, people here are very smart and experienced.

i would learn CN first because if you learn look ahead with one colour, you will be used to that colour and that will male it harder to transition to CN.

Just go color neutral. I started cubing color neutral so it was easy to learn. But since you might not be used to neutrality, you might need to start back from the bottom. When you get to the point where every color feels sexy you are there.

I have become CN half a year ago (well I started half a year ago). For it gives me great advantage in finding easy crosses. I suck planning a complete cross in 15 seconds. Also solving CN is more fun since I find solving just white cross a bit boring. However, I do not recommend switching to CN. It takes a big dedication and it will cost you a few months of getting faster on white cross. I mean if you continue to solve white you will get faster where in the transition to CN you will fall back in times for a while.

I learnt CN and got faster at CN in 1-1 1/2 weeks :P

Yeah I know. I think most people can (and will) master CN in less than a month if they are truely dedicated. I was a pure white cross solver and am slightly older of age.. So it took waaaay longer for me. Now these days I am just as fast on any color. ;) I am very pleased with that though.

Thanks to all of you, I really appreciate all the helpful responses!

Now I'm still learning to solve on yellow crosses, and even that is hard for me. I think it's such a problem because I basically solved cubes more or less for about 8 years(tho speedcubing only for about half a year) and I always solved white, even with the crappy beginners method I used before I started learning CFOP. So I think I'll actually forget about full CN because I don't think I'll get as fast at it as I am with white right now. I struggle big time even just with yellow, and when I try to solve on yet another color, I'm completely lost. Of course, with enough dedication I could eventually get there, but I came to the opinion that it's not worth it. The biggest advantage besides an easier cross I think would be planning an easy first pair, but I can't even really do that on white yet, I can't imagine inspecting a cube for all possibilities.
I am definitaly going to get opposite color neutral tho, because that alone can be an advantage.

So in conclusion, thanks to all of you for your input! I found that learning look ahead(turning slow) also on yellow makes it easier for me to learn yellow as well and vice versa. So essentially I'm learning 2 skills at once, in that learning one of them helps me learn the other, which I find quite nice :)

I am partially color neutral, or I can solve the cross on both the white and yellow sides, though I usually choose white unless yellow looks amazing. I would say learn look ahead first, as it is much more critical to your times.

I just became color neutral. Its more fun, you´re average gets lower and more consistant. It took me a week and it shaved off a couple of seconds. I'd say go for it

Look a head comes naturally, you don't really have to practice it that much
