CLL vs EG1

o.O only 12 new algs? I'm definitely learning CLL. But according to Limeback I have to learn them all at the same time or I'll forget/confuse my self, is this true?

Well, that's an exaggeration... At some point this week I'll write up a post about learning all of CLL quickly.

Hmmm, it sounds a lot easier than I thought. I had been planning to finish learning full OLL for 3x3 next, but I think I'll leave that on the backburner for a while and go for CLL first.
I'm averaging a little over 9 seconds with ortega, so maybe I'll get sub-7 with CLL :p

Dude, you shouldn't even be thinking about learning CLL, let alone EG1 if you're only 9s avg with Ortega!

Practice all the algs for OLL and PBL until you are at least sub 2 on them all, if not sub 1.5. You can learn good algs from David Woner's site.

Just do a few thousand solves in the next month or so in addition to practicing algs for a bit and I can guarantee that you'll be at least sub 6, if not sub 5.

Sub3 is easy with pretty much any method. CLL, Guimond, SS- all easy to sub3 with, even if you just know part of the methods. I got sub3 averages long before I finished CLL, and I still haven't finished SS.

A small note on PBL:
Ideally you should be consistently around 1-1.2 for Jperm and 2bar, 1.5 for the Yperms, and ~.8 or so for most of the 1bars. Being consistent is extremely important.

Listen to David, he knows a helluva lot about 2x2.
And it turns out I average about .2 slower with Ortega

Why? If my goal is to learn CLL, practicing ortega will help me... how exactly?

You'll get better at 2x2/cubing in general, turning style, prediction, recognition, etc.

Exactly the above^

But it sounds like your intentions aren't like most other speedcubers. The decision making generally goes like 'learn a basic method -> practice -> feel like you've hit a wall -> learn a more advanced method -> practice'. If you just want to learn CLL, be my guest, and I'm happy to help you learn it. If you actually want to get considerably faster quickly, I can help you do that too :P

I'm honestly just trying to save you effort. Would you recommend a beginner to learn full PLL while they are still using the Rubik's beginner method?

Well, it's not quite the same as your 3x3x3 analogy. On the 3x3x3, there are lots of different things to learn in order to improve, and they build on each other. You can learn a 4 look last layer and F2l before you move on to full PLL.

But on the 2x2x2, ortega and CLL are pretty much completely different methods. I've learned about all that can be learned for ortega. I'm color neutral, I know how to predict the bottom layer PBL, etc. The only thing holding me back from getting faster I suppose, is practice.
So, I can sit here and spend tons of hours practicing ortega, getting faster at it, THEN basically start over from scratch with a different method, and sit there for hours practicing again.
Or I could just learn CLL and cut out the whole "spend hours practicing ortega" part.
The things that you say practicing ortega will help me get faster at... practicing CLL will help me get faster at those exact same things.

I very much doubt that you've learned all that can be learned for Ortega if you are still averaging 9 seconds.

But anyway, you seem pretty set on learning CLL and I don't really fancy arguing about it, so I'll give you a link to Rowe Hesslers recognition tutorials here and David Woners CLLs here, plus there is also Anthony's site which is also a good resource. Last (and actually least), there is the Wiki.

I think Rowe also has an FL tutorial on his channel.

Well I don't mean to make it sounds like I'm an *expert* at ortega or anything, I just meant that I've got all the fundamentals covered. My only real problems with my solves are my turning speed and my recognition. (and turning speed will improve no matter what method I practice, and I doubt practicing ortega recognition will help much with CLL recognition)
Thanks for the CLL links, I'll check them out.

I use ortega and first layer and oll can take 7secs max, but pbl ruins sub10
Average of 5:
00:10.86, (00:09.38), 00:12.39, 00:12.04, (00:13.14) = 00:11.56
3 of 5= 00:11.76

i still need to learn a few tricks and shortcuts
even though i'm slow, we all started this way

Zarxax: I suggest keeping with ortega till you're about 6s or so. Then learn CLL.

The way to be good at 2x2, is to be good with EVERY method.
