i noticed my solves were about 2 seconds faster while chewing gum. i think it has something to do with keeping you going at a consistent speed, like if you chew in a rythm, your hands will kind of follow.

This is an except from a wikipedia article.
"The United States military have regularly supplied soldiers with chewing gum since World War I because it helped both to improve the soldiers' concentration and to relieve stress."

They also provide us with gum for our standardized tests at my school.

Yeah, this would be cool, if you don't mind choking to death when you hit a lockup or a PLL skip...Lol. I also find that cubing in cool but not really cold areas helps my times. Just like they say that cold is good for intellect :)

Yeah chewing gum really helps calm nerves, and I think that just plain helps somebody who cubes due to the fact a lot of times I know I'm guilt of getting a bit anxious when I get a good solve. Going fast while cubing obviously correlates to how relaxed you stay.

I guess I've never really noticed chewing gum making a difference to my cubing, but then again, I chew gum almost all day every day (I've always got to be doing something with my hands or feet, which probably also explains my cubing passion :P)

I think I'll do an experiment later. I'll do as many solves as possible in a day, switching from gum to no gum every 20 or so solves. Results will be on this post if I actually have time to do this...

^ Who? :o

*Checks Youtube* z0mgwtf2l a female cuber[/sexism]

I have braces and the orthodontist said not to chew gum, even though half the people I know with braces chew gum anyway. I get distracted chewing gum. When I focus on something else, I seem to stop chewing. If I focus on chewing, I can't concentrate on other things.

"Other studies show that chewing gum activates certain chemicals in the brain that help improve short- and long-term memory, and even helps reduce stress."
