Hello everyone!

This is something that I normally do not do, so therefore I excuse myself for unintelligent lines, if any. I am helping my son going through bunch of math tasks. We have solved everything except that one question, that is driving the whole house nuts:

here it comes: 5332/1u1000.gif

1u1000.gif

Can anyone help us, not just by giving the right answer (although that will help too) but actually explaining the corellation between the lowest row of numbers and the cube.

Thanx a lot!

Ooh fascinating puzzle, I'll get right on it :)

EDIT: Agh! ok the xyz bit is obvious but I just can't get the relation to the bottom numbers. What class is this for? Please say it's college level :(

This is Question #14 from the Haselbauer Dickheiser Test for Exceptional Intelligence.

It appears that people are paying for solutions to this.

I'd be surprised if this was from a class. It's from an IQ test. The person who scored the highest on this test ever got 22/25.

Are you sure that it's for your son? :)

AGH! Firstly I feel scammed that this clearly isn't for a school project, but secondly I don't feel so bad that I didn't get it right away.
Also you should have given the full question. It's useful to know that the bottom number is a 'transition code' which explains the change from one cube to the next.

Thanks Kirjava, I could have wasted a lot of time on this... also it's interesting to see the other questions... I may be able to get some of them... maybe. could be fun.

It is offcourse possible that some math teacher included this particular question in a school task and that the OP is not working on the full H-D test.

I have now downloaded the full test and will have a look at it later to confirm my lack of genius...

BTW the test mentions that you are allowed to use books, calculators and computers.
However I don't think this means that it is OK to "use a computer to ask others to answer the question for you".
It is also asked NOT to share the answers online.

A school maths teacher included one of the worlds hardest IQ puzzle questions in a 'bunch of maths tasks'. OR some guy wanted the answer and lied to us so that we'd do it for him.
I'm pulling Occam's razor on this one.

Oh I'm picking this up, found a pattern pretty fast, and now it's for the second line on every picture...

EDIT: Gah, forgot to search relation between them, time for that now...

I like stuff like this, even though I can't do them at all, so I can't really help you. I don't understand the pattern of the letters.

Edit: Just found the pattern of the letters. I didn't think I would get this far.

It is for my son. Bunch of IQ tests came together with math tests. Soon they will be tested NIO and CITO for mandatory advice about high school. now he already scores high, but not exceptional to my opinion. however, this is the package exercises we got.

hier in his NL school they usually do that - exercise before testing. for the case of IQ you cannot improve your result, but they still send the exercises so the children get used to it, know what it is, know how to manage time etc. they noticed wen they don't do that, a lot of children have lower results just due to the fact they are stressed by unknown. Thats how we got all those 'weird' questions. Math questions we have solved all. Other IQ questions the most he solved in time. What he didn't know he solved later, one by one but needed much time.

however. we are stuck by this one. now to the point of irritation.
as someone said: first row logica is peace of cake. but all other correlations ... :p

I forgot to tell. my son is 11. going to high school next year. is already doing extra math.
and I........ I am as plain as ***** compared to him :o

i just red all the answers
it is not a scum

i am posting the question here because at one point i thought we cannot think of answer because noone in the house ever does anything with Rubic cube. there.

anyway thanks. at least now i know what it is and where it comes from. and am not being bothered by the fact we are stuck anymore.

Edit: as a disclaimer that there is no scam i can only give my skype via PM. on request. so there, video call if you wish *wink*

ok xyz is easy

now I know also that the last digit in bottom row, one behind the fulstop, says how many fields up or down the cube went tov. previous one.
yet much staring....

You mean the difference between how many stickers are shown?

I noticed that before the xyz thing lol (though that's trivial also).

My current theory about the numbers is that they are split up into xxyyzz or something similar and map transformations. At the simplest level it works for the piece that is in y1 at the start for the next few images, though I'll have to think of a few more rules :P I also think that they refer to pieces moving that are not highlighted (which is why understanding y9 and x5y4 is such a *****), but that's just a guess.

I thought the 6 numbers were like a base 3 code where you need to add/subtract the known patterns to find a value for each place. But I'm not getting anywhere with that.

i also think 6 digit number splits into xx yy zz, for all 3 shown facetes of the cube
10 means 1 goes, 02 means 2 come (from 0 to 2)
however doesnt fit all, so i am probably a mistake

and if you follow all the logica the last cube should have only one y field

except I don't know w h e r e
