Big cubes time breakdown

With my method, "the right spots" are the 12 center edges. With the Big Cubes 5x5x5 Method and also on 4x4x4 "the right spots" are the 24 wing edges.

Yes, I take your point, but simply the fact that there are more pieces on the 5x5x5, makes it harder, in my opinion, to see the right pieces. Do you know the saying "can't see the wood for the trees?"

Also, I think with the 5x5x5 there are more tricky cases, such as when pieces are stuck in your working "M-ring", and could even be the wrong way round
Those tricky cases also happen when you do 6-at-a-time on 4x4x4.

The difference being however that all the tricky cases on the 4x4x4 have a very neat solution, ie see my website. Because there are only two edge pieces, and they can only be one way round, you don't end up with back to front edges

If you do 2-at-a-time on 5x5x5 and only use d (not d2) to match you avoid all bad cases.

This is with a semi-pair already at the start, right? Which is also a bit of a time killer in my opinion, after the centres you have to search for a semi-pair, which takes a couple of seconds, and if there isn't one, you have to form it, without messing up centres (I think).

I'll be visiting Lars the weekend before WC07, could you come up and join us for a day?

Dan :)

Yes I agree with Dan, you can't just simply multiply the time when the number of edges increases, the time to look for the edges also increases!
As for that first semi-pair situation, I don't even try to look for one anymore but I just pick on edge and do a '2 at a time' with a non-semi pair once and then continue with one of the semi pairs I just made.

Hey Erik,

So for the "first semi-pair" situation, if it were the case that you got the nasty case that Arnaud tries to avoid by starting with a semi-pair, that's just bad luck, right? Or do you have a trick for dealing with it? Just to clarify (!) this is when you have made the first "staggered semi-pair", you are looking for the second centre-edge but it is trapped in the first position, and when you "complete the cycle" the centre-edge is flipped with respect to the wing-edge...

About the name semi-pair, it's interesting, because technically it is a "two-thirds of a triplet". Reminds me of the gameshow "Countdown" we have in the UK, it always used to be in two parts, which were the first half and the second half, but they extended the programme a few years ago but couldn't decide what to call the 3 parts, so they ended up with "3rd half" :)

Big cube breakdowns

Just post em here I guess. I'm curious.

6x6
Centers: 1:10 - 1:30
Edges: 1:00 - 1:20
3x3: 20 - 30

2:30 - 3:20

7x7
Centers: 2:30 - 3:00
Edges: 1:30 - 2:00
3x3: 25-30

4:25 - 5:30

What are yours?

4x4
Centers: 10-14s
Edges: 17-24s
3x3 phase: 19-23s

5x5
Centers: 34-40s
Edges: 1:00-1:20
3x3 phase: 21-25s

6x6
Centers: 1:25-1:45
Edges: 1:35-1:55
3x3 phase: 23-30s

7x7
Centers: 2:50-3:30
Edges: 2:15-2:45
3x3 phase: 25-30s

I think my edge pairing is similar to Yau's.

My aims:
6x6:
Centres: 1:10
Edges: 1:00
3x3: 30

7x7:
Centres: 2:15
Edges: 1:30
3x3: 30

More likely:
6x6:
Centres: 1:20
Edges: 1:20
3x3: 40

7x7:
Centres: 2:35
Edges: 1:45
3x3: 35

I'm out of practise though.

Idk lol. My 39 last solve official was 24 redux and oll parity. I was just turning really fast on 3x3 cos I wanted a good time I guess, and I wouldn't usually turn that fast for 3x3 at home, unless I was under pressure.

[/ hard to explain stuff]

4x4
centres: 8-12
edges: about 20 with Nakaji, 15-30 with M slice 2 chain (am in the process of switching...)
3x3 part: ~20 (15 with YJ)

5x5
centres: 25-35
edges: 30-50 (really inconsistent)
3x3: ~20
