none of them cut corners good, but the eastsheen 2x2 can cut corners somemwhat good once broken in but then again get the eastsheen 2x2 becuase its the best 2x2 out there and you cant get any better one. For 4x4 get a mefferts clone or a real mefferts 4x4. as for the 5x5 id go with the v-cube 5 becuase its some what smooth out of the box, but once broken in and lubed its smooth as heck. hope i helped

ES isnt a bad 4x4. its a really good like medium 4x4. like you start with rubiks, then i reccomend going to ES. then when you get good, go for mefferts.and maybe he cant afford a V5 and ES is the next best thing

so yes buy the whole set, they can be modded to cut corners really good

well you should buy the whole set if you dont have enough, im just pointing out the cubes i would recommend over those.

EDIT: @kylegirard the best is all that i just named eastsheen 2x2, mefferts 4x4, and v-cube 5. but some preffer the es 5x5 over v-cube but i recommend v-cube 5

The ES 4x4 and 5x5 cut corners very badly but turn effortlessly. I use some shock oil so the slight viscosity reduces jamming and helps me control my turns. I am not good enough with my ES 2x2 to evaluate -- mine does not cut corners well for me, but I hear people say it cuts better after extended use.

2x2:eastsheen
4x4: it can be close between ES and mefferts( but i reccomend ES, but it may change when i get a mefferts, who knows :D)
5x5: V5, or eastsheen if you cant afford a V5

Gparker,
If you don't mind, would you please tell me how to mod the ES (have got 2x2 & 4x4) to cut corners well?. Both of them are quite smooth, but don't cut corners well at all.

The 2x2 has 2 different models, the A2 and the A2f. The A2f has less space between the cubies, so I think the A2 should cut corners much better.
