Anyone out there ever planned out your cross... and then forgot before the solve?

Anyone forgotten your cross?

Sometimes in competition I start BLD solves looking for cross pieces. Now I always take a moment to focus and make sure I know what I'm doing.

This happened to me once or twice in competition, back in the days when they used to cover your cube between inspection and the solve. I've heard from a few other people who this happened to as well. Thankfully no inspection only wastes two or three seconds, but still, it's annoying :P

With Petrus I try to plan out my 2x2x2 block, and forget it after I start sometimes. Does that count? lol :) If by luck, I already have a corner/edge pair, I never forget where the pieces are.

Never. Sometimes, very rarely, I don't focus and just do not even bother to see the whole cross before I start the solve, but I never forget what I'm thinking about.

I have forgotten my cross after the inspection when solving in competition before. That's extra embarassing ;-)

What's worse is when you plan something special like an Xcross, and realize during the execution of it that your plan of how to solve it was incorrect and leaves some cross pieces missing, or only solves a couple pieces that you intended to solve. Those are fun solves too :-P

Both times that I thought I saw an Xcross in competition, I wound up with one of my cross pieces flipped after nearly finishing the F2L. :( Now I have a strict rule to never go for Xcrosses in competition, even if I think I see them. (I do hope that someday that will change, after some practice at home, but for now it's much safer.)

I never forgot how to do it, but I have made execution mistakes many times. It's weird ending up in the last layer and suddenly see a white edge-piece between all the yellows.

I've been there too...

Oh gosh I remember during one of my ALMOST sub-20s (ended up being 26.36) I had realized on my LL (PLL step) that I permuted R and O on the bottom later cross wrong to begin with, so the top was essentially "impossible" -- I had to create an on-the-spot alg to flip the edges around (thankfully I just did M2 U2 M2, then a U-perm... :D), but that was a scary moment in my life. :(
