Playing with rubik's cube's has always been one of favorite things to do when i need to pass the time. i have never been very quick my best time being probably about 90 - 100 seconds. the only method i know is the general layer method, and when i go to long with out picking up a cube i will forget some of the algorithms altogether so i have to look them back up. but i have had extra time on my hands lately and wanted to see if i could get it to stick and maybe even find a few better methods to use. i was wondering if someone might have a list of different methods and algorithms, or any advice for someone with time to spare.

When you've watched Badmephisto's tutorials, and you feel that you would like to get even faster, then check out his website for 1-look OLL and PLL charts, and his very useful PLL recognition video. However, if his algs don't suit you, experiment a little, as hic0057 said, the Wiki is a great place for alternative algs.
One last thing that can never be said to much, work on your F2L look-ahead, but also look-ahead in general. Pauses and unnecessary cube rotations are the worst.

Proven fast methods for 3x3x3 are CFOP and Roux.

Other methods that should have the potential to be fast are Petrus, ZZ and various FreeFOP variants (CFCE, ZB, MGLS etc)

Methods to look into that may or may not be fast include Waterman, L2Lx, Heise, Sandwich, etc.

Heise and Snyder are listed as advanced methods on the wiki while CFOP and Roux are classed as intermediate. This is just dumb.

Heise is easy enough to get good at in an hour or so.

Afaik no one knows the Snyder method. Snyder himself just does ELL+1 in two looks. It's just another FreeFOP method anyway.
