[Official] 6:59.16 3BLD - 5 year old Chan Hong Lik

do you really want to tell a 5 year old boy who had just blindsolved the Rubik's Cube that he got a DNF because he removed the blindfold while holding the cube ????!!!!

He should've read the regulations before competing, so it should be a DNF, but of course it would be stupid to DNF this solve :) I don't think any judge would have done that (since probably most judges probably don't even know this rule)

Nevertheless, he should be told to put the cube down first, and DNF the next solve if he does this again after being told.

SERIOUSLY !!!

He'll literately HATE CUBING
He was so excited to see what he did , and he didn't even do any move , the judge made the right decision

He has a bright future , God bless him

I know! Lets grant him every possible world record in the hope that he wont 'hate cubing'. /s

I think the fact that he is 5 doesnt mean he should be exempt from following the rules.

Your comment is bad and you should feel bad.

This was his third solve (after a 5:50.41 succes and a DNF) so there would have been no "harm" in DNF-ing this solve.

He'd still have a succes and would have learned an important lesson about regulations.

On a side note: I hope the kid really enjoys cubing and has asked his parents to teach him how to BLD solve outof his own desire to do so.
Remember that the age listing was removed from the WCA sire for a reason....

My daughter asked and could solve the 3x3x3 at the age of 5 but never real showed interest in learning more advanced techniques so we left it at that.

I don't want to, but that would be the correct thing. It's a bit unfair that the regulations stretch because of someones age. Why don't we make age groups then?

Why not :) ?

I agree with that , he should be told about it first , not DNFing it

This!

That's not what the regulations are for... And by strict way you all obviously want to read regulations, Maskows mbld wr should also be dnf, because he touches the cubes to see how many he solved before the judge has time to check the cubes... so that would also be a dnf.

But obviously it isn't and it shouldn't be in my opinion, because he didn't do any moves to those cubes. He just wanted to see how well he did.
And it's essentially the same case as here... Plus the kid is just 5 years old so you can't expect him to actually read through and understand all the regulations.

The solve seemed completely legit (and amazing), giving him dnf would be against all sportsmanship and sense of justice...

That's just my opinion, you are allowed to disagree if you want

Regulations made by People to make sure fair play

He just 5 years old boy and in this case He was just to Excited about his solve. remove or not his results I believe he is going FASTER with Bld and another events @ his next competition.

@ Chan Hong Lik : YOU ARE WORLD WONDER!

I hope his Judge already told him about this regulation after this solve , or maybe The judge also don't know about it, I hope not. Sorry if I'm wrong.

Yes you do want to tell him that. Rules are rules, age groups shouldn't exist, etc. (however I suppose just telling him that while allowing the solve is probably the best here considering it was a real solve and a fantastic one at that). IMO we should have enough respect for him that proper rules apply to him. He's not 'just a kid' but another cuber. If he hates cubing because of it he'll come back in a few years anyway.
Hmm, I'm excited, perhaps he'll take 'our' place in the future with that enthusiasm and dedication.

Well it is possible, when I started I thought I could not get much faster. You set yourself boundaries, do not do that as this mental block will stop your progress
There are several ingredients to get fast
1) talent
2) dedication
3) training

I lack talent to get to a 9 sec average as my TPS is to high, still with dedication and training I must be able to get a 13 sec average some day
So start to practice more

and age is not an excuse ....

btw For a 16 seconds you only need a TPS of 3 (and a very good lookahead)....

I really want to, but I highly doubt I will get as fast as you. I have not set boundaries but even when I try to do prepared solves I hardly get steady 16 second solves. But you know, even if I do not get to be fast I really enjoy cubing. Times are just times.. ;) Right now I am learning BLD and OH. I really enjoy that too and finishing a solve right now is a goal. ;)
