what colours do you usually go for by preference?

red orange yellow white green blue

any shade, dosent bother me.

the red and orange stickers are kind of transparent so the black plastic makes it look a lot darker.

This is a perfect review.

I hate reviews where the first 2 minutes are interesting only to the extent that you wonder if the clumsy guy is going to cut himself getting the box open.

Fangshi Shuang Ren 3x3x3 [Review]

I have had my Fangshi for a while now. As soon as I saw Crazybadcuber's video on it, I immediately pre-ordered one from HKNowStore. After a long and grueling wait and delay, my cube finally arrived in the middle of May. I had it assembled and lubricated within a half hour, and the first thing that came to my mind was how well it turned. It's not quite as smooth as a Dayan cube, and the best way I can describe the feeling of the cube is "different." There is no other cube on the market quite like it. That being said, however, I think that it is one of the best cubes on the market. From my hundreds and hundreds of solves since, I have only popped it once, and having transitioned directly from a Rubiks brand cube, I was pretty rough with it at first. It undoubtedly is the most stable cube out there. At first, it feels sluggish from all the points of contact, but once it's broken in and correctly lubricated, it turns great, though not as fast as a Dayan cube.

Overall, I recommend this cube, though it might not become your main right out of the box, it is at least as good as a Zhanchi after you work with it some. I rate it an "Excellent."

Where the puzzle was purchased: Fasttech
When the puzzle was purchased: Around the end of May
Thoughts on the puzzle: I love this puzzle, it's smooth, fast and controllable. It felt weird at first but when I got used to the feel, it was amazing. After around 200 solves I thought the feel wasn't smooth enough compared to other people so I did the Fangshi 'mod' and that made the cube better than ever. It is my main ;) ( I didn't lube this cube )

If you only just transitioned from a Rubik's brand to a Fangshi ShuangRen, I'm assuming you don't have that many other 3x3s so is it not a bit unreasonable to say there is no other cube on the market quite like it? Or have you tried them all? I don't mean to be rude, I just think people read/watch what other people say about a cube and then present that as their own observation without in fact experiencing it for themselves. If this is the case, maybe you could add that this isn't firsthand knowledge. Anyway, that probably came off as aggressive and very nitpicky but I just saw some flaws with this review.

When: Immideately when it came out
Where: HKNowstore
Rating in poll: Above Average
Thoughts: When I got this cube I had problems with pushing the edgecaps all the way in, which was really annoying. Also the 2 pieces of the center came apart all the time. I liked the speed of the slicemoves, but the grainy dry scratchy feeling was not too cool. I have since solved it about 1500 times and the feeling has totally changed. The cube is fully lubed (core and a bit on the pieces) with 50k and 10k differential oil and it is really good. The corner cutting is really nice, and the reverse is good too. Overall the cube is good, but it wont be my main for now atleast. The worst thing about this cube are the corner twists. I used to twist a corner once every 20 solves, but after tightening the cube they twist less.

Stickers: Since this was a DIY, I stickered it myself and the placement is OK. The shades are dull and the stickers are thin making the shades seem darker. This is noticed mostly on the red and orange sides. I like how the stickers are rounded.

I can't grip this cube as well as my zhanchi or any other cube. That's because the pieces are rounded way more than any other cube. That's one reason why it isn't my main.

Lockups and pops:

I do recieve occasional lockups, but nothing severe. This cube used to pop a bit, but just like with the corner twists tightening helped.

Since then, I have purchased multiple cubes (I have since purchased a Zhanchi and a HuanYing), and have tried other people's cubes (Such as the Guhong and Wind), but this cube, I have found, is unique among them. I am sorry if I came off as a bit aggressive, and I do realize how it may have sounded, given the circumstances, but I have since become a much more experienced cuber.

I have bought my first Fangshi as a pre order from HKNow. A white one. That cube is terrible. So incredibly slow that at one point I got an injury in my wrist from some kind of repetitive restrain injury thingy.. But looking at other reviews I reconned that there must be something wrong with the one I got, so I ordered some new ones. This time I bought two black ones from two different stores. Both are amazing. But since I am a white cube solver it's too soon to say this could be my main. Right now I ordered a white one. If that one is just as great as my black ones then Fangshi will be my main cube. Right now a white MoYu has than honour. All in all, Fangshi is a great cube. It turns really smooth, and never locks up. With the correct tensions it will never pop. Only downside is the occasional corner twist.

Oh that makes sense :P You didn't come off as aggressive at all by the way! (: Personally, I love the Fangshi Shuang Ren, it's one of my mains, but it hasn't a definite AV feel. At lease mine does.

Where the puzzle was purchased: Last week
When the puzzle was purchased: UKCubeStore.com
Thoughts on the puzzle: I resisted buying a Shuang Ren because I was worried it wouldn't live up to the massive hype, and wanted to hear some reviews first. When good reviews started coming in, I decided to bite the bullet and buy one.

First thoughts: disappointed and underwhelmed. I bought it pre-assembled, and it was too loose, not lubed to my liking, etc., etc..

I took it apart, lubed it, and tightened it significantly. Threading the core was fiddly, but worthwhile as there was an immediate improvement. Still had some pops and lots of corner twists. Last night, I tightened it some more, and was amazed that it still effortlessly cut 45 degrees plus. Today, I beat my PB Ao50 and Ao12 with it, and had some really nice solves. My opinion of it has totally changed. It still needed a little tightening, as I experienced a few corner twists, but it's greatly improved, and now I'd say it's a real competitor with my Zhanchi (current main).

Just tightened a couple of faces even more (!) and they still cut 45. After tensioning Dayan cubes in the past, I had thought I'd got the cube to the sweet spot for corner cutting, but in fact the screws can be turned much faster than you (or at least I) think! I'm now intending to break the cube in a lot more, but I can only see it getting better. I can already see the matte finish wearing away on the cubies, as has been discussed elsewhere.

Final thoughts: Ridiculously fast, effortless to turn, but somehow controllable as well. Lockups are almost non-existent, even for rough turners like me. I rarely get 16s and 17s, but had half a dozen in an Ao50 today, and almost beat my Ao5 as well. I can definitely see this becoming my main, but can also see why it's an acquired taste. The feeling is very different to a Dayan cube, and tensioning is tricky, but when you get the tensions right, and get used to the feeling, this cube is just fantastic.

I'm off to update my sig with new PBs... :)

Dayan has raised the "average" standard for most cubes. I think its safe to say that most cubers have either a guhong or a zhanchi. That means the average cube is, lets say, a guhong these days. I'd say it's above my Guhong, but not my zhanchi unless I feel like I want a crispy cube that day. So I voted above average. It's honestly not the best because it doesn't glide quite like the zhanchi does. I still need to get the moyu huaying and compare it to that, but overall i'd say its pretty great, just not the best.

Where: The Cubicle
When: beginning of July and received it yesterday
Thoughts: I've been playing with it a full day. I was surprised that I liked the feel even though it sounded sandy. It's quite smooth. I took it apart and lubed core with Lubix and pieces slightly and also used some maru lube. Restickered to half brights. After ~400 solves so far, it is less sandy than it was yesterday and is smoother. I think after more solves it will be really quite nice. I've heard of corner twist issue but I've only had one corner twist of all the ~400 solves I've done on it so far. Hasn't popped on me yet. Quite a different feel from Dayan though. It might be my main, but I still have to play with it another day, then try Weilong for a few days and then 57mm Zhanchi. One of these are bound to become my new main. Previously it was a 55mm Zhanchi.

Wow, everyone keeps getting corner twists on their Fangshi ShuangRen. (and MoYu Huanying) I occasionally get 2 corner twists in one solve with either my Guhong v2 or Zhanchi...

Not me. Still just that one twist and I've done probably another 150-200 solves on it today. I think it must be turning style or tension or something. The more I play with it, the more I like it. I've done a little over 100 solves with the Weilong. Either I need to do some more tinkering with the tensions or lube it some more or I'm just not sold on the feel of it yet, but I keep wanting to go back to my ShuangRen. Well, I'll stick with Weilong for a full day tomorrow after restickering and more tensioning, lubing and see what happens. A lot of people like it so I'm not giving up on it yet.

by far the best 3x3 i've owned in my opinion, just came today and i didn't lube or anything but it still feels amazing so this is probably my new main. (previously 55mm zhanchi)

I have the V2 and I have to say that it definitely feels completely different from the other cubes on the market. The plastic is very different, I feel as though I'm speedsolving a really sturdy cardboard cube. Anybody else get this feel?
