I assumed this was allowed, considering when someone does R' Rw M' in a solve, it is usually just written as M2 in reconstructions. My results:

For the RUL, is it allowed to do R' L for M slice?

Previously we determined that we could not do slice moves in place of RL' or LR', and I'm going to say that we can't do RL' or LR' in place of M or M' because to follow up you'd need to do an x rotation or an F/D/B move.

Additionally:
Rotations during solves are banned but rotations before solves that do not impact the solve challenge are allowed. I.E, for RUL you could do a y2 before starting the solve, for 2gen you can do z2y, as these both preserve the RUL and RU gen nature of the solves.
