[Unofficial] 3x3 Average of 5 (Watch the last solve)

okay, just for fun and self-amusement, heres a data lesson.

the chance of getting a specific time is
(Z score, which has a specific Z value which is a fraction) = (time) - (average) / (standard deviation)

Z = x - average / σ
Z = 5.87 - 14.982(the mean, not average) / 0.15
Z = -60.746667

if Z = -6, the chances of him getting it again is 1 out of 1014713328. his is 10 times higher. and LOL when i put it in my calculator it just said the chances of scoring 5.87 is 0 out of infinity :P

I think its safe to say, he wont ever get a sub 6 single in a long time!

And you NEVER get a sub 5

his scramble is 25 moves
Try again.
My bad :p But also, all his other scrambles have 24 moves too. Maybe he set CCT to do that for some unknown reason?
Possible. Though stupid. And look closely at the fifth scramble:
D' F2 D B2 D R2 D R2 B2 D2 L' R2 U R F D2 L D2 U L R' D2 F2 B2

First ten moves are in <U,D,F2,B2,L2,R2>. And none of his other four scrambles look like this.

I don't know how Kociemba's algorithm is applied to generators. Does it first solve the scramble and then invert the solution to get a scramble generator? Because I don't see how the two-phase algorithm (with my limited knowledge of it) can be applied to turn a solved cube into a scrambled one, because a solved cube means phase one is already completed, doesn't it?

If, I happen to be right about CE first solving the scramble then inverting the solution, then I guess the evidence you highlighted is pretty convincing.

and has no sign of Kociemba's algorithm.
Guess I wasn't looking close enough.

Edit: What I don't get is, how? Does CE produce solutions of different lengths on different machines depending on processing speed? I tried the scramble and CE gave me a 21-move generator instantly. Or did he use ACube with "fa" and used the 24-movers produced instead?

To be honest, I haven't looked at the scramble hard enough to come to a conclusion, but if I wanted to cheat, this is how I would go about getting a 25-move (lucky) scramble from cube explorer. First, get cube explorer to give you your lucky scramble (usually around 20 moves, but you could get it down to very few). Then get cube explorer to give you an algorithm that will turn a solved cube to a solved cube. Insert the solved cube->solved cube alg into the middle of the scramble algorithm, and viola: a scramble that, at first glance, could never come from cube explorer.

I'm sure there are many other possibilities to how its done, but it seems to be the easiest way to me. Not that I'm a cheater :P

emu, please give an example scramble built that way, I'd like to see that.

I personally love the anti-sune alg and the J-perm. The following scramble only took me a couple minutes, but if I was really trying to cheat of course I'd spend a lot more time covering it up.

U' R U' L' U R' U' L B' R' F R B R' F' R U2 L U2' L D L' U2' L D' L2'

It's 26 moves. Maybe it's far too obvious, but can you spot exactly what I was doing there?

Edit: Whoops. Up until a few days ago, I had the bad habit of scrambling without paying attention to orientation (green on front, white on top). If you do white cross, you should scramble with yellow on top for this particular scramble.

I got a pretty good PB single solve of 3.72! :P

I do my anti-sune alg as R' U' R U' R' U2 R, with the only oriented corner in the top-left corner (UBL or whatever). Then it's a J(b).

wow crazy last solve, im betting that was fake, memorized scramble -- memorized solution, long enough to look real, fast enough to be fake

Ahh, firstly I want to say so sorry everybody :(
That's me, I half-cheated at the last solve.
And yeah, that last scramble didn't generate with CCT..
I got it from my friend. Idk how he generate it.

On Tuesday, he came to my home and he asked me to make an average video. Then, he told me that he found a very lucky scramble :p
An evil mind came....
I scrambled the last cube with that algo and taddaaaam!!
Really, I hadn't try the scramble before.
I don't really want to cheat, I think it still legal until the solve was prepare.

Please, apologize me..
If you guys want me to delete the video, I'll do that :D

Finally you confessed.

I'm calling hacks.

I think I am too.

Umm, perhaps I am at a misunderstanding.

Does "calling hacks" entail that he is legitimate, or not?

It means he cheated.
yeah...he used a fake scramble, which is why they purposely had crappy lighting, not showing the computer screen.

Sure, one can see cubetimer, but there's probably a text file hidden at the bottom of the computer that we can't see, or a paper he's reading from. :|

No, I set the camera like that because i don't have any lower tripod ;)

and he cut off immediately after the solve. even someone that's really good will have a BIG reaction.

fake...

After that solve I shouted and jumped from the chair and made the camera fall, hahaha
Because of that, I cut the video :)

Actually I'm kinda surprised too. Because 1 month ago on the last time I met him, he averaging about 30-35 seconds. Then 2 weeks later he told me that he averaging sub 20 and got sub 10 PB.

Ian :) yahh, my average was 25 at that time, that because my new cube pop all the time.. See you next competition :D

Idk.. with an easy scramble anything's possible but I mean this was just yea...I got a 10.22 with Erik's scramble but that doesn't mean anything because of how easy it was.. I myself average around 22 so yea...As for this, the reason I think it's fake is because of:

1: his reaction after the solve
2: the quick cut
3: His recognition of the PLL and execution (I don't think that even Breandan Vallence can recognize the PLL that fast...he can execute it that fast though ;))
4: How his F2L was only 4 seconds in the last solve yet around 12 seconds in the other solves

1. I cut the video, you don't know how happy i am..
2. ...
3. You can try the scramble and you'll know how easy to recognize the PLL :)
4. why not? it's a lucky solve..lucky cross,lucky f2l,lucky LL haha

If there any possibility, it can be..
I think you can also get PB with that scramble :D

Did anyone notice two weird things in the video apart from the sub-6 solve?

1. At around 0:24, he randomly pauses just before he inserts the last F2L pair. I'm guessing he's just checking that it was going to go in the right slot before inserting it?

2. From 1:05 - 1:10, he does two A perms.

I'm not accusing him of cheating or anything, I just thought it was weird.

1. Because I saw 2 yellow sticker, I thought I was pair wrong edge. I stop to look that pair..
2. False recognition :o

Btw, I likee your E perm

his scramble is 25 moves
Try again.
My bad :p But also, all his other scrambles have 24 moves too. Maybe he set CCT to do that for some unknown reason?

Don't know, It already set like that from the first run

Whooaa, good inspection detective Pochmann :D

Yep :)

So he did know it was an easy scramble, but still his solve was legit since he tried it for the first time..

Anyway 5.28 is still darn fast..I average 14secs and I got 7.73 on the scramble with the OLL skip and J perm as well..took me some time to react to the skip and J perm though...despite the fact that I knew it was coming..
