[Unofficial] 3x3 Average of 5 (Watch the last solve)

Actually I'm kinda surprised too. Because 1 month ago on the last time I met him, he averaging about 30-35 seconds. Then 2 weeks later he told me that he averaging sub 20 and got sub 10 PB.

Idk.. with an easy scramble anything's possible but I mean this was just yea...I got a 10.22 with Erik's scramble but that doesn't mean anything because of how easy it was.. I myself average around 22 so yea...As for this, the reason I think it's fake is because of:

1: his reaction after the solve
2: the quick cut
3: His recognition of the PLL and execution (I don't think that even Breandan Vallence can recognize the PLL that fast...he can execute it that fast though ;))
4: How his F2L was only 4 seconds in the last solve yet around 12 seconds in the other solves

(I don't think that even Breandan Vallence can recognize the PLL that fast...he can execute it that fast though ;))
Never ever doubt the Breandan.

It's Vallance btw, get it right. ;)

haha i couldn't find a way to word it... but yes Breandan is god... and thanks for the correction haha. But yea Sarah the skip could be seen but i mean the PLL...not only was the recognition fast but the whole LL was done in a second and a half?

A second and a half is obviously ridiculously fast, but Breandan says he sometimes sub 2's the last layer if he gets like an Antisune and U perm. ;)

But only Breandan can do that ;)... and this guy obviously isn't Breandan.

okay, just for fun and self-amusement, heres a data lesson.

the chance of getting a specific time is
(Z score, which has a specific Z value which is a fraction) = (time) - (average) / (standard deviation)

Z = x - average / σ
Z = 5.87 - 14.982(the mean, not average) / 0.15
Z = -60.746667

if Z = -6, the chances of him getting it again is 1 out of 1014713328. his is 10 times higher. and LOL when i put it in my calculator it just said the chances of scoring 5.87 is 0 out of infinity :P

I think its safe to say, he wont ever get a sub 6 single in a long time!

Hmmm...
Well, he did pause ever so slightly during the last (?) pair, so who knows...
I'll call him safe for now, and give him the benefit of the doubt.

I might randomly change my mind because I'm jealous, though.

Don't think it's fake. He just got very lucky. Same pauses in F2L, consistent with those in his previous solves. 3-move cross, zero rotation 15-move F2L with cancellations, OLL skip, no AUF, fast J perm, no AUF again (sorta, the last U' is part of the alg). Improbable, but possible.

Most importantly, his scramble is 25 moves, looks pretty much like a CCT scramble (I know this isn't a very strong point), and has no sign of Kociemba's algorithm.

I think he's legit.

By the way, awesome FMC solution (un)planned in <15 seconds :p

And what actually are the benefits of having a video with a sub-6 single solve on youtube?

...

Okay...
I scrambled and solved before watching the video. I got a 6.77. I've never done a lucky or nonlucky sub-10 before. Same solve. This was my first 3x3 solve in a day or two. I've been 16-18 the last few times I've tried, and my turning speed isn't very good recently.

The recognition of the OLL skip was easy because of the way the last pair went in. The recognition of the PLL was also easy; I find J perm, especially at that angle, to be one of the easiest to recognize.

It is conceivable that he planned the solve and, by some means, created a 25-move scramble to generate it, then fed CCT 4 random scrambles and that. But I managed to get an absurdly fast time on that solve as well, so I'm not convinced that proves he did the scramble in advance.

Did anyone notice two weird things in the video apart from the sub-6 solve?

1. At around 0:24, he randomly pauses just before he inserts the last F2L pair. I'm guessing he's just checking that it was going to go in the right slot before inserting it?

2. From 1:05 - 1:10, he does two A perms.

I'm not accusing him of cheating or anything, I just thought it was weird.

Urgh. Don't do that. Please.

Pauses during F2L might mean he has not fully memorised the steps involved and still had to lookahead a little to remember what has to be done..
and obviously the skip and J perm is already expected so he did not need time for recognition..

I once rehearsed a scramble on my LL skip and still had to pause during F2L
