[Unofficial] 138 Pyraminx Solved while Hula Hooping (UWR)!

You've told me my UWR is pointless to my face, so I'd guess you'd tell Riley that to his face as well.

EDIT: I think your actual words were "UWRs are stupid."

And I will back that statement. Unless your UWR is for something that is commonly done, it's pointless. Great, he's the first person in the world to think of this. Of course he has the UWR.

The fact that so few people attempt to get good at things that aren't official make it difficult to judge UWRs that aren't for official events, or big BLD.

EDIT: I would like to add that yes, I was pretty rude in my answer. I apologize for that. I'll try and be a little less blunt and harsh when it comes to judging people online.

The amount of choices for the next forum awards are too damn high.

Painful to read. Good job guys. I hope you're proud of your comments.

+1

I get that this is another uncontested UWR, but come on.. some of the comments you guys have posted are way way out of line.
I guarantee that if somebody like Feliks or Rami or anyone who is a World Champion did this then you would all be at his knees worshiping him.

Here is proof of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBMXUC1KxWU
Scroll into the comment section and see if you can find anybody insulting him for doing something pointless that nobody has done before. There are NONE.

Some of the hate being thrown at Riley is disgusting. I personally can't hula-hoop for even 30 seconds let alone 45 minutes.
I'm not saying that this being accepted as a World Record is a necessity, but lay off him a little bit.

It would be really embarrassing to our community if this video was considered a record.

You are forgetting that your average Joe would be amazed at someone being able to solve a 3x3 in 3 minutes.
If this is accepted I would like you to find me one non-cuber that says "This kid is so slow".
Embarrassing to the community? Is this the same community that piles hate onto this guy instead of commending him on his achievement?
Yet somebody can upload their first 3x3 sub-1:00 single and do you see them getting hate for it?

Seriously guys. Grow up and stop hating. This isn't who we are. If you ask me, this entire thread is the embarrassment of our community.

because he's not claiming it's a UWR or that he's contacting Guinness to have it verified. there's a difference

It's still solving a cube whilst performing another task. It's just as impressive as Riley's Pyraminx feat.

I also stated in my original post that I don't really think that this should be a World Record, my main issue was the unnecessary harshness or everyone's comments

... which is probably because people don't like the fact he's trying to call this a record

... unlike chris

... which is why chris didn't get hate

I understand the origin of people's annoyance. But this much?

People calling him stupid and his video an embarrassment? That is NOT called for in any case.

My problem is people treating him like he tried to fake the 3x3 WR single or something. He's just a kid, and he most of these comments are unnecessary.

The difference, I think, is that Chris didn't call it a UWR. If Riley had not called it a UWR I think people's reaction would have been very different.

edit: lol ninja'd by like an hour.

Yes, I understand this and I agree that it wasn't right to contact GWR to try and make it official. But just have a look at all of the comments in this thread. They are way too harsh imo.

EDIT- Also, I find people are using the "He sent it to GWR" as an excuse to insult his solving ability. I've seen numerous people calling him slow and bad at cubing, which is uncalled for. I have no problem with people contesting his decision to send it to GWR, but solving ability isn't something that should be criticized, because we've all been there.

The thing is, from his past videos and his "UWRs", he is trying to act like he is fast. Sure, people who are slower should not be mocked and insulted for being slow, but he is trying to make himself look fast through his records, instead of practicing to actually get faster.

i.e 8 second 3x3 solves, 1.81 skewb solves (which are arguably legit xD) and 2 attempts at a pointless UWR (however the bike one was quite cool, but still wasn't a UWR) or a UWR that he didn't check beforehand.

Just about sums up my feelings.

But hey, it's about time we stop arguing and bickering. Riley, if you're still around to read this, just take out "UWR" from the titles of the thread and video. Perhaps everyone can stop ranting and raging and go back to other more... important... stuff. Really, we need to move on. If Guinness approves this record, then congrats to you, Riley!

However, for future reference (to everyone, not just Riley), if you want to perform an "amazing feat" or a "pointless UWR" or anything like that, don't try to slap on a "UWR" status with it. If it truly is a UWR, then someone will recognize it as such. If you are trying to get Guinness to approve the record, don't tell anyone UNTIL the record is approved. Basically, just perform the feat for what it is, not for a UWR.

Example of above procedure: For this 138-Pyraminx-while-hula-hooping feat, when uploading the video, Riley should have excluded "UWR" from the title and description entirely. Then, when making this thread, the title should also have no UWR status, and no mention of Guinness should have been made. Then what should have happened would be congratulatory replies, rainbows and unicorns instead of this nuclear fallout we currently have as this shameful thread.

tl;dr - We need to move on.

Honestly, the biggest problem people have with this is simply the fact that it had "UWR" and "GWR" in the title. Had he not said that, guarantee this hate wouldn't be happening. Lots of slower cubers love to do *anything* they can to get a UWR. And doing something like this isn't an impressive UWR. It just makes him look like he's fishing for compliments.

While I think this whole thing is very silly, there is NO reason to mocking his speed or telling him how big of an idiot he is.

Is this the same community that piles hate onto this guy instead of commending him on his achievement?
What achievement? He just did something nobody else cared to do.

I have no problem with people contesting his decision to send it to GWR, but solving ability isn't something that should be criticized, because we've all been there.
Solving ability absolutely should be criticized when someone is claiming a UWR/GWR. Yes, we've all been slow, but when we were slow 99% of us didn't have the arrogance to say they were the best in the world at something cubing-related, and try to get Guinness to approve it.

Had he not said that, guarantee this hate wouldn't be happening.
Sure, people would be nicer. But that completely changes the context, from "I am the BEST, give me praise" to "I did a cool thing, I thought you guys would like to see it". I don't think he'd be getting a ton of extremely positive comments though... more like a few people saying "hey, that's a cool idea, maybe I'll try it" or "congrats on hula hooping for so long".
