I actually mostly agree with you. Where I disagree is in where the difficulty of 1-look CMLL comes from. The individual algs are (mostly) not hard at all, but associating them to the cases they solve is indeed a challenge.

    For two adjacent corners twisted, put them in the front. If the top stickers both face you, do R U R' U R U2 R2 U' R U' R' U2 R (2 sunes). If they face left and right, do the inverse: R' U2 R U R' U R2 U2 R' U' R U' R' (2 anti-sunes).

It looks like "2 sunes" is a Sune and a Bizarro Sune, and "2 anti-sunes" is a Bizarro anti-Sune and an anti-Sune (Bizarro = flip the move directions, preserve the order). I absolutely consider these hard. The fact that they're combinations of Sune variations would make them easy on a written test, but they're not in my muscle memory. Even to undo an inadvertent sexy move, I have to stop and think about it.

Associating the algs to the cases, yeah, that's a challenge. For an L case I'll see that the non-oriented corners have opposite colors on top, then I'll check two other stickers and see that they're also opposites, and I'll be like, "OK, I recognize the case, now which alg is this? [Too much time passes] Oh yeah, this is the easy one (same as 2-look)!"
