    Alternative 2-Look CMLL: Permute-First

Oh, I didn't realize that orienting could affect the arrangement of 2 bad edges. Good to know. But beyond the bad edge pattern, the specific edges matter for EOLR. If you have an arrow pre-commutator, you know you'll have an arrow post-commutator. But you won't know how to solve it until you...

    Alternative 2-Look CMLL: Permute-First

The dude is back! Let's hear it for the dude! The volatility makes sense because while the reduced move count is stable (without 2-corner twist cases), the recognition delay varies greatly. I might get lucky and immediately see how the corners are permuted. But I also might freeze up during...

    Alternative 2-Look CMLL: Permute-First

I wanted to follow up after using 2-look perm-first CMLL for a few months. It's been both better and worse than I expected. Better in that it really is more fun than orient-first. CMLL was always my least favorite Roux step, feeling very mechanical and out of place compared to the other steps...

Associating the algs to the cases, yeah, that's a challenge. For an L case I'll see that the non-oriented corners have opposite colors on top, then I'll check two other stickers and see that they're also opposites, and I'll be like, "OK, I recognize the case, now which alg is this? [Too much...

It looks like "2 sunes" is a Sune and a Bizarro Sune, and "2 anti-sunes" is a Bizarro anti-Sune and an anti-Sune (Bizarro = flip the move directions, preserve the order). I absolutely consider these hard. The fact that they're combinations of Sune variations would make them easy on a written...

Sune is easy, mostly because of how often we use it. Double Sune adds an extra U' R' U R, still easy. Triple Sune adds one more U' R' U R, still easy. I didn't know the terms double/triple Sune until now, but I use them for the H columns case and the L pure case.

Let's look at the algs Fred gave for the 2 corners cases. I'll rate them as easy or hard, but that's relative. By "hard" I don't mean that they're horribly random sequences, just that they're not easy. Call them "normal" if you prefer.

    Alternative 2-Look CMLL: Permute-First

    You're setting the bar for "hard" a lot higher than I do. I've been casually working on the 1-look H cases for like a year, and I'm still not sure if I have the column and row cases down. In R' F2 D R2 U R2 D' F2 R, I might switch the D/D', or the F2/D. In r U' r2' D' r U' r' D r2 U r', I might...

    Alternative 2-Look CMLL: Permute-First

Yes, the permutation recognition is definitely a downside compared to orient-first. I haven't really figured it out yet, but I've been getting more comfortable. I see your smiley, but just to be clear for everyone, 2-look takes a tiny fraction of the memorization effort needed for 1-look. It's...

    Alternative 2-Look CMLL: Permute-First

@dudefaceguy, this is fantastic! I assumed that I since I never heard of permute-first, orient-first must be the clear winner. But this way is absolutely better, IMO. I propose calling it the Roux-Dude method. People act like 1-look CMLL is so easy to learn. Well, maybe, if you're doing 200...

[Member Intro] I'm tRouxly glad to be here

Starting with the Nourse method many years ago, I later switched to the (modern) beginner method, then CFOP, and then settled on Roux as my main method. Learning full CMLL was my New Year's resolution, but I had to abandon that when I realized it just wasn't going to happen. Maybe I'll learn it...
