As the title states, this is a thread to discuss who you have taught to solve any (twisty) puzzle. I apologies if this thread has already been created somewhere but I'm interested in who you have managed to teach.

A couple of things to consider before posting:

Why is this person (or animal ;) ) unique?

What puzzle(s) did you teach them to solve?

What were their reactions or thoughts after solving the puzzle?

Did you teach them a method or just some patterns or funny algorithms?

I'll start. When I went camping with my friends church this weekend, I taught a heavily partially sighted boy how top solve a Rubik's cube along with some basic patterns (Checkerboard, Flower?) and I showed him how to take apart and reassemble the cube. I also taught a dad and his son how to solve the cube with the beginner method and then we finally performed the cube-in-a-cube algorithm which he found mind-blowing. Also during 'free time' in IT at school I taught a girl how to solve the cube. This was special because she wasn't (what I thought) the kind of person to enjoy it (being the party animal she is ;) ) Finally, I from time to time, always manage to impress somebody with my shaky sub minute average.

So, who have you amazed/demonstrated with something through cubing? I'm sure everybody would love to hear who you have inspired to pick up their old cube or just who you made happy that day by showing them how to solve.

So, what are you waiting for? Post away!

Note - If this could get stickied then that would be great, thanks.

Most recently, I taught a friend of mine how to solve a 2x2. I didn't know any "beginner" methods for it, so I taught him to make the first layer, then use commutators to orient the last layer. Then I taught him T-perm and y-perm. He learned reasonably fast, especially considering he can't solve 3x3. I did teach 3x3 to a couple friends a few years back. I also taught reduction (specifically for a 7x7) to one of my best friends. He already can solve 3x3 and averages around 30 seconds with corners first.

I taught my dad my sister and my cousin how to solve.
My dad knows f2l and sune/antisune ocll.
My cousin does first layer and edges and solves ocll with R U R' U' and D, D'
I also taught my sister this method but she refused to learn cp and ep.

I've tried teaching some of the freshmen in my Spanish class, but for some reason they can't wrap their mind around doing an R2 to bring a cross edge down. I taught one kid how to solve a 2x2 except PLL.

But I guess I'll just list from who I learned each puzzle (or substep/method)

2x2: myself
3x3: RobH
4x4: variety
5x5-7x7: myself
F2L: paradox cubing
Pyraminx: myself
Megaminx: I'm shamed to say MMAP
BLD: Noah
SQ1: Thrawst (I think it was him)

Uhh, Dan Brown for 3x3, idk for the rest. Forgot.

I taught my brother how to solve a 3x3, but things went weird and now he does 2 look OLL by doing corners first, then edges. Whatever works I guess.

I attempted to teach my friends how to solve the cross but they just can't seem to grasp the concept.

I work in a prison and I made a "study group" with 6 inmates that wanted to learn how to solve the cube (after having seen me solve it). 3 of the 6 learned to solve it. The other three wasn't able to concentrate on the subject. But I consider it a succes.

like four friends or so, I've re-taught a few people and my gf couldn't even quite figure out the cross, give it more time but she just likes watching me solve :P

Well because the secret is finally out I may as well put it in here as well. The rumours are true, I did indeed teach Feliks how to solve. It's a shame it wasn't long before the apprentice became the master ^_^

I only really solve 3x3 so that's all I have ever even tried to teach.

My younger sister, with my own combination of algorithms that I felt is much faster than the usual 7 step beginners method. Then she taught like 4 people and even a few of them taught other people, so that's a pretty cool feeling. One of the people she taught even managed to get down to 30seconds on a regular rubik's brand cube
It was pretty easy and quick because, well we're siblings.

Taught a close friend of mine how to solve it but nothing too significant about that.

I've taught countless people at my school how to do patterns or just a side.

Pretty awesome feeling to inspire someone :)

Wow! I didn't know that, that's very cool!

As to the original quesiton, I've taught many people how to solve. However, the ones I am most proud of are the elementary and middle school students that I taught while I worked at Mathnasium Learning Center in Cary, North Carolina. They really taught me that adults can have such an "I can't do that" attitude after years of either being told, or believing they can't do something. Kids are fearless and really can do anything because they believe they can do anything. I think that I learned more from them than they did from me.

My nephew got me interested in the cube at Christmas and I taught myself from a YouTube guide he suggested. I saw him again at the weekend and he hadn't progressed as he's pretty busy with other hobbies so I taught him F2L. I have also taught my 8 year old niece and got a couple of work colleagues interested. I buy cubes for anyone I think might like it.

Nephew and I were showing off at a family wedding at the weekend so I hope we may have a couple of new converts from that.

I'm also trying to converts as many person as I can. I already bought two guanlongs for some person and I also made a grouped order with some friends so that was 10 cubes and converted.
I infected 19 if I'm not wrong (Too lazy to check my signature)

Also I learned from a youtube tutorial that was awful and I can't remember which one it was.
